Something that never made sense to me when Les was the coach.

He benched Jeremy Hill for a fumble, which he recovered. His benching arguably helped cost LSU that game against Ole Miss.

Fournette fumbled twice, and yet he still played.

J. Lee was benched for two interceptions against Bama, after previously leading the team to 9 victories at that point. Didn't sniff the field except to take a knee after that. Yet Mett threw two interceptions (al least ) against OM in his Sr. season and continued to play after that.

Trey Quinn Dropped two crucial passes against Bama and didn't see the field as a receiver until the Texas Bowl, yet Dupre dropped at least 3 passes under Miles and continued to play.

All added up, doesn't make sense, and just highlights the nonsensical coaching under Miles.

ETA: Eaux doesn't seem to have the same disciplinary approach as Miles.

He plays his play makers without all of this baggage attached.

Thank God, we lose that game otherwise...

Les showed favoritism. Simple as that.

Seems like there's a lot of potential information missing in your hypothesis.

So after Jefferson's poor performance in the fist half of the game, why didn't Lee get a shot??

This one always stood out to me. It took a special level of dumbass to do something like that.

You are confusing discipline/punishment with Les feeling unable to trust said player. Either way, though, :whogivesashit:

Confusing

Les Miles seems the one who was confused in his lack of consistency regarding team discipline.

Because it was 9-0 at the half and Les was afraid of a quick pick 6 putting it out of reach. It was a horribly coached game, and Les should have been throwing the kitchen sink at Bama, so I'm not excusing anything.

One thing that we don't know is the player's attitude about it. They could have said or done something in the moment which would make it impossible not to bench them. We can't call it stupid until we know all the facts.

Didn't look like we were going to win that one under Jefferson. Why not try something else?

Yes it was. And I recall Miles saying when asked about preparations what had the team been focusing on.

His response was "working on the basics." WOW Playing for the Natty and "working on the basics."

No discussion about watching film and developing plays.

The results of his approach are widely documented.

But this thread is not about that, though it adds to the Les Miles debacle over the last few years, which includes his nonsensical approach to team discipline of players for making mistakes in game.

My response was about the game in November

I don't really recall that, it was reported that the team worked on a bunch of new stuff leading up to the game, just never called any of it. Les' mistake was thinking the game would be a repeat of the November game, so the "basics" were pretty important. And because it was within 2 scores through the 3rd quarter, he still thought he was in it.

I'm sure it makes more sense than we realize, as the other poster said, unless you have insight into the player's reaction, how they practiced leading up to the game, etc. all play a role.

However the in - game discipline for mistakes was uneven under Miles.

That's the point.

And yes, he did say prior to his last Natty that the LSU team was "working on the basics."

If you watched the game, then surely you can agree that was his approach.
