The decision to go for two was made even before the touchdown.

After the touchdown by Daniels, he never even looks back at the sideline. He goes straight back to the middle of the field and waits for the play call. Looks like a pre-meditated decision vs. an on the fly decision. Kudos to Brian Kelly on the ballsy call and it paying off.

ETA: Apparently CBK said otherwise but the video says it all.

Kelly said in the post game that it wasn’t pre determined

Not according to Brian Kelly.

I knew we would go for it even before we scored on the first play. It just felt like the right call

Coaches say a lot of things Lester. I’m just saying normally a QB runs off the field to the sideline after a touchdown and he didn’t even think twice about it. The rest of the team gets into formation as well waiting for the call. I appreciate what CBK said but I think the video indicates otherwise. Either way, happy it happened.

Also the pre-timeout okay was going to be a similar version with Taylor in motion but the WRs were in tight. After the time out they set up wide right but same motion and play I believe.

Just telling you what he said and I’m not sure what benefits there us to lying about it but I guess there’s a possibility

No, they look to the coach to see if he is sending the kick team in. BK was not holding a finger up signalling kick. If he had told the team they were doing that somebody would have said it in post game.

I disagree completely as the whole team went back to the middle of the field to setup the next play. There was no confusion about the kicking team trying to get on or anybody looking to Brian Kelly to see what to do. I provided the link to replay so you could see that. I think the actions by the players on the field tells the true story not what the coaches say after the game. But that’s my interpretation. Glad it worked out either way

I think he decided as JD was running towards the endzone.

1 play TD in the first OT - if God be with us, who in hell be with them.

The moral of the story is that once that decision was made:
A) it was communicated to the offense AND special teams with little to no confusion.
B) We not only had a play ready to go, but also had practiced it enough where that was seamless
C) Not only did the comms to the offense and ST have to happen, offense had a few substitutions which were also seamless.

Agreed. Bama had 12 guys on the field a few seconds before the snap. Very impressive with offensive rhythm after a huge TD.
