Did ESPN throw out this talking point or was it another media outlet?
Wouldnt surpise me but I dont know. I have not watched ESPN once it became obvious post NOV 5 that they were lobbying for bama.

I've seen this point often the past week. Did ESPN throw out this talking point or was it another media outlet?
I heard it yesterday from a gump at work and he's not that clever at all. He would never have come up wiht that on his own. Same question for me.
What I dislike about this argument the most is it proves that nothing is ever enough. Not only did they win the mulligan they were fortunate enought to be in, but that's not good enough. That game totally devalues the rest of the season. I think after 07 LSU had enough self awareness to know we were fortunate to be where we were and no need to salt the earth.

I thought about this a bit ago. Progress is good.
I honestly don't care.
I know my place as an LSU fan when it comes to Bama: Bama always wins, even if they lose. In the end, they will get their way.
In terms of LSU's place in CFB as a whole, we play by a different set of rules than schools like USC or Bama. I'm cool with that as well.
My issue is the precedent this sets for CFB as a whole now that ESPN literally owns the sport. We are back to the days where the traditional/media darling teams will benefit.
Also, every fan, especially SEC fans need to be concerned about the new slippery slope we just slid down.
Like I said earlier:
What happens when ESPN decides that USC, despite finishing third in the Pac12, deserves a rematch in the BCSNCG against the Pac12 Champ, while a 1 loss SEC Conference Champ sits at home bc of a "non-quality loss" on the road at Tennessee, MSU, or some other mid-level SEC team.
That's what all CFB fans should be focussing on.

This.... I've always said that we were lucky to back into that BCSNC game in '07, and took advantage of the system that gave us that opportunity....

07 taught us two things:
If you are not an entitled/media darling, you must win your conference to get in the BCSNCG and UGA wasn't that.
2011....All that changed. LOL

I agree. We (the SEC) won today but bet your arse if OSU/Michigan or Texas/Oklahoma or USC/Notre Dame are at the top Auburn 2004 will be happening again sans Alabama.
I liken my earlier electoral college comparison. Conventional wisdom and protocol was turned on it's head this year and different standards were applied.

Great points.... At least the bitter taste that the rematch left, will cause more "tweaks" to the system.... Like a plus one...

Though there is really no comparison to the crap that happend this year, 2007 also proved that quality OOC game is of great value. We had two this year that counted for very little.

The BCS changes only when an entitled/media darling is hurt.
I started a thread about this two months ago that was pretty long and detailed specific instances.
I don't see a change coming this year. An entitled/media darling benefitted. No need for change at this moment.

Get over it, buddy. We'll all be happy when the band comes on the field before the game in September. Putting up with the Bama oneupmanship for next 8 months - that is the bitter pill......

With that being said, if the BSC is going to promote the fact that College Football doesn't need a playoff, b/c "Every game is a playoff"... Why didn't the win on November 5th count for anything?
This is key.
In a known playoff system, playing Bama again would have still been a big hurdle, but the emotional scales would have been tipped less severely in Bama's direction. It was the 'surprise, your win doesn't count' nature of this rematch that was so damaging.
