You wanna know what the payout was?
17.5 Million.
conference payout
quote:
Coaches bonuses ($960,000)
shouldn't be counted as a net negative, since it is not directly related to the bowl costs
quote:
What anout the 14 sum odd million more?
The CONFRENCE gets this payout.
and UF gets the CONFERENCE payout from every other bowl game an SEC team was a part of, which means they MADE money in the end
stop being misleading
don't forget that UF got, for example, 1/13 of the BCS share of Bama's game against Utah. that is over a million. and then there is the split for the capital one, cotton, gator, etc etc
UF made money from SEC bowls in 2008

If the economics supported a playoff, why aren't all those money grubbing ADs at the big schools jumping on it. It's because they know they will get less money with a short regular season, and they know the presidents are dead set against a longer season.
it's not that as much as this 2-sided problem
big schools/conferences will demand a lion's share of the revenue (as they should), because their brand is the reason why the games would be worth so much
small schools/conferences know they won't have a bargaining position, and likely will make less money than they're making now. big schools would divide up D1A into a 3rd tier before splitting those billions evenly, and small schools know it
so, we remain where we are

I like the idea of a playoff, but the fact remains that even if a playoff system is used and is based on rankings there will be complaints. As long as humans are involved in the rankings of teams, there will be controversy.
