No, but Alan Clark has been in and out of rehearsals the past couple of years and has written music for us. He's at least been somewhat under the umbrella of the organization.
FWIW the only one in a long while that's been in TGBFTL finished her masters last year. The other guy did undergrad at Eastman, not exactly known for their marching groups.

How about instead people keep out of shite that doesn't concern them?
Posted on 6/27/10 at 11:56 am to Tigah in the ATL
If they need an office assistant, then they should hire an office assistant. If they need an assistant band director, they should look into doing that.
Rob Dowie doesn't really fit into either category, and if he did, it wouldn't be band director. Sure, maybe Roy needs a gopher to run around and take care of paper work...but they have other people who could do that.
I don't understand what makes this figure so important to some people. Great musicians and drum majors have come and go in Tiger Band, that's what they do. LSU has churned out so many great musicians and music majors who are much more qualified in the musical world than Rob Dowie.
I would love to assume that his intentions are good, but I am just not sure that they are 100%. I also know that several members are growing weary just from his presence. That's just the way it is...

Rob was just a drum major. he has been around 6 years and is just trying to get deeper into the band administration. It's time for him to get on with life
NM, you may be speaking the truth here...

Guys, don't take this petition for face value. Rob didn't have anything to do with the petition, he has even asked for it to stop. Don't burn the guy for wanting to help, burn the people that think a petition is the way to do it, all that does is bring bad thoughts from people on the outside.

How about we get someone in there who makes sure our halftime shows don't suck anymore

I never said he had anything to do with the position. I just said he wasn't qualified for a staff position when several other people who have gone through the university are. This whole "petition" thing is just ridiculous. This is where the admins need to step up, do their job, make the proper decisions, and make sure 17-21 year olds still in school aren't the ones who are trying to "run the show".

Also...there is a facebook group called "save Rob Dowie". Seriously? What are we saving him from?
And I've heard from sources that a "close friend" of Rob's started this petition...maybe there are lines we need to read between?

Nope, I know for a fact that it wasn't his idea/that he didn't start it.

Nobody has posted that line on td ever...

I am just saying that I have heard from other people he had some input on this. I am not saying it was his idea. But there are some kool-aid drinkers out there who would start this up for him, and he wouldn't necessarily try to handle this in a more mature manner.

I talked to one of the petition sponsors about it?

Sounds more like you've got a personal axe to grind, broseph.

I agree with you on this, I know Rob very well and he truly loves the band and wants to help, but this is something that needs to be done by the people in charge. If it blows up in their face then that's their problem, if it works then they get the credit.

It was my idea to start the petition. The "close friend" of Rob's offered to help out. Not many people expected that, huh.
Basically I just gave away who I am on here.
But in all seriousness, maybe a petition wasn't the best way to go, but it's all I could think of since I'm very far away from Baton Rouge. And what are you TD'ers going to do, bash Rob some more? Bash me? Get over it.
The SOM admin will do one of two things:
1. Take the petition seriously and allow Rob to continue working with the band.
2. Deny the petition and we will all move on with our lives.
Either way, it was my decision to begin this process, and I don't regret it.

No. It's just the truth. You aren't the only one who knows Rob...

That's the bottom line. This move would be unprecedented to say the least. Tiger Band would go from a staff of Roy, LRM, and Wickes to a "staff" of Roy and Rob.
As an alum of the university and the band, I think that just sounds awful. And that would have nothing to do with Rob, and everything to do with the people in charge of this whole decision (which I'd like to hope there isn't one that needs to be made, because that is how ridiculous this all sounds to me).
I don't care who any of the former drum majors are, the person helping Roy needs to be someone who knows how to tune ensembles (large or small), someone who knows how to do proper admin work, someone who has great organizational skills, and someone who can quickly earn the respect and trust of members of the band, and someone who is qualified musically.
That being said, I don't think that person is Rob.

No, but nice of you to come out of the woodwork and join the board.

Uh yeah...it's a message board. Don't come on here with your 7 posts and proceed to tell people to get over it. It's a public forum, that's not really how it works. Face it, Rob had his friends, and then he had people that disliked him. That's the way it works when you play an important role within an organization. There's no need to bash you, but you should also respect the opinion of others rather than throw out the "get over it" line...

Rob's working with the band isn't going to be the make or break factor here. Those people are the ones who have resigned and left. To even remotely suggest that this "student" can fill shoes of LRM and FBW is a joke.
