One major difference last season between game 1 and 2 was AJ was dead on the money with his passes in game 2. Those outside shoulder passes along the sidelines are damn near indefensible.

As a cursory view, I see severely limiting AJ's offensive effect/playtime a strong defensive priority this go around.

Blake Sims, dual threat. He's been relatively successful, though it has been in garbage time. We run a read-option with him in the game, and it's been surprisingly effective. He hasn't had to throw it yet, but I'm sure it could be seen against LSU. He actually appeared in meaningful time against Tennessee, so I assume we are bringing him in to give defenses something else to think about.

But if AJ does down and Sims has to come in, every crimson butthole will be tight.

Sounds liek a good tactic then.

I don't see the read option as a viable offensive attack on LSU's front early in a game. Late in the game or with key injuries it could be profitable though.

It's hard to really say either way, since we have only used it when teams are worn down. But since we have only used it for hand offs and QB runs, I would like to think that we want defenses to assume that's the norm so Sims can have a chance to air it out. He has a pretty big arm IIRC and did really well in high school. Yes, HS =/= college, but I still think it could be a good wrinkle in our otherwise humdrum offense.

you guys have tight buttholes....we're walking on a tightrope with no frickn' net. such is life in the SEC. bring it on...let the chips (and the body parts) fall where they may. Tiger Stadium will either shake the earth or it will be swallowed by the massive blackhole vacumn caused by the implosion on this board.

If most SEC schools lose their starting QB , they are in deep doodoo. We'd better hope Mett doesn't get hurt.

I think this had to do with much softer coverage in game 2. In game 1 we were all about stopping TR which we did - even on the outlet passes.

Lacy hasn't been much of a threat to anyone this season surprisingly enough so it'll be interesting to see what our plan is for UA in 2 weeks.

I agree almost any major school losing the starting QB will be in trouble but if an opponents second string QB cannot execute in the same offensive model or game plan then it really creates problems. Look at what happened with TCU when Pachall self destructed the day before the game. Boykin had to step in an run a Pachall O which he did not excel at. Then the following 2 games Boykin comes with a designed O just for him and wham we are moving the ball and putting up 50 pts a game.

Most of the tards on this board would be ok with that because it would give Rivers a chance to come in...most people were begging to see Rivers on Saturday.

Is the OP advocating purposely taking out AJ as a good strategy for LSU to use?

Didn't he fumble on his first snap against Tennessee when they tried to run that stupid play where the QB puts the ball in the RB's hand for 5 seconds before he decides to either hand off or run it himself?

I AM IN NO WAY SUGGESTING ANY ILLEGAL ACTION AS A GAME PLAN

Football is not a contact sport it is a collision sport. Repetitive collisions between a 200 lb QB and nearly 300 lb defensive interior athletes will take its toll.

If you do not feel spying, targeting, blanketing, or otherwise keying on a player is a tactic used by every full contact football team you are simply foolish. Bama's successful removal of Colt McCoy several years ago is just one example.
