Did anyone see the ESPN game day special on TC McCartney, our 3rd or 4th string QB? That was a very heartwarming special on his dad Sal Aunese. For those of you that did not see the special, I believe more will be on this morning on ESPN2 at 11 central. His father Sal was a big time recruit that Les Miles stuck his neck out for while at Colorado. While Sal was there, he was the starting QB for the Buffalos. He got Head coach McCartney's daughter pregnant later to find out he was diagnosed with cancer. I believe Sal died when TC was five months old, right before the Washington game at Washington in 1989. Three weeks ago was a very special moment for TC when he went back to the place where the Washington fan base had a big moment of silence and remembered Sal. If you can watch the outside the lines report, I recommend that you do so. I shed a tear when watching and can't wait until TC gets to get in for a snap. He obviously still had a big connection to Les Miles b/c of his dad. Just thought I would share this with our great fan base!!!

Yea, I heard it on the radio the other night. I thought it was pretty sad myself, but not for the same reasons as you. Sal got her pregnant, then refused to marry her and then didn't want anything to do with TC until he was on his deathbed.

Maybe I'm missing something but heartwarming just doesn't come to mind.

That was a pretty awesome story!

Though Mr. 1999 pointed out that what it meant is that we'd probably hear a shortened version of it nearly every game.

I half-expected him to say that TC was the largest baby born in Colorado and that at one time he had Fats Domino living with him...

The fact that TC still wants to come out and honor his dad when he puts on his football gear says a lot. His father might not have wanted him until he died, but obviously, TC cares enogh to keep him in his life. I thought that Sal might have already known about the cancer and didn't want to create a relationship there. Plus they said he didn't want to marry the mother not be a father i thought???

You ARE missing a LOT. You DON'T KNOW.

TC's Dad was a Prince of a guy. Don't besmirch that with what YOU DON"T KNOW because you saw a ten minute piece on ESPN.

Props to TC, Coach Mac and Les Miles.

This is COMPLETELY incorrect.

On the weekend of Sept. 5, T.C. arrived in Seattle with the team, stoic and pensive. None of his teammates knew the significance of the situation, only Les Miles. The team took the Husky Stadium field the day before the game, and T.C. stood alone on the 50-yard line looking up. Miles called him over, and they chatted on the sideline together alone for five minutes. No one on the LSU roster would've guessed what they were talking about, but the answer was: Sal.

Great stuff

In the poster's defense, I think his description of ESPN's piece as not being completely heartwarming is correct.

I don't know the whole story, but Sal Aunese is not cast in a terribly favorable light by the little that I do know. It seems like he was surrounded by tons of people who were just dying to give him the benefit of the doubt for how great a guy he was everytime he smiled at his baby son or had a nice converstion with Kristy.

I think that in a weird kind of way, though, the harder and more frustrating Sal might have been to deal with, the more it says about the people who constantly surrounded him with love, and the more it says about a son who still wants to carry on his father's legacy, even knowing that his father's legacy was somewhat flawed.
