I'd give him a 7 for the first game.
-1 for intentional grounding
-1 for the interception before half
-1 for the offense not scoring in the 2nd half
Now, the intentional grounding never would have happened had the refs not called a penalty on Hebert (after the Ridley TD run) which most are saying wasn't a penalty at all. And we shanked a field goal from that area earlier in the game. So we might not have scored anyway even if JJ wouldn't have got penalized. Still, he took the chance away - so it was a problem even though he had a good drive to get us down there. It was a stupid mistake where he had time to get rid of it.
Not scoring in the 2nd half was more the fault of the RBs fumbling than anything (and that penalty called on Hebert), but JJ contributed with his penalty.
The positives:
-71% completions and very accurate most of the time (that was with 4 drops as well).
-2 nice TD passes
-A successful bomb for 50+ where he stepped up into the pocket and took a hit included in those TDs
-No troubles getting the plays off and seemingly much less confusion than last year (not a bunch of wasted timeouts)

He gets a 7+. I saw improvement over last year.

4 And that is an improvement from last year. Take away the 1 long pass and you have 100 yards of passing the rest of the game. Take away the 2 really bad plays and it would be a 5

Yeah, but add in the 4 drops and he has more yards. You can play that game all night. You can't take away the long pass. It was a good play.

I say 7. Would give him an eight had he not thrown that interception or gave up all those yards with that intentional grounding call.

he has a lot of improvements to make.
Issues I still see:
1. Doesn't move his head/eyes much to try and redirect the secondary.
2. Seems to just make one read and take off at times.
3. Throws after the receiver is open not when he's about to be open.
4. Rarely hits receivers in stride, mostly because of #3
He has improved from last year though but still isn't where he should be after the amount of starts he's had.
Pretty good summary. My biggest concern is that he might be topped out, and we seemed to run a pretty simplistic offense(thank goodness). If he is as good as he is going to get, we are still in trouble against this schedule.

he looked a little better, but the playcalling was pretty similar to the last 2 seasons

Why do you think the play book has shrunken? 1 long pass and it was short. The only passes down field was to the tight end over the middle. The others were short passes to the sidelines or screens. Need 7, throw to the man running the only underneath route. Need 5, throw to someone behind the line of scrimmage and hope that he can catch it and run for 6, even though the pass is at his ankles or over his head. Which destroys any chance to catch and run. I am sorry but completing short passes that kill drives is unacceptable.
