Every year LSU plays 7-8 games where they enjoy an overwhelming talent advantage and 2-3 where they enjoy a slight talent advantage. This advantage has covered up a great deal of coaching deficiencies over the years.

Everyone gets pumped up on this site when a recruit commits or even names us their leader - but over the past 2-3 years, 80% of those are RB's, WR's, and DB's. I don't care how many good skilled players you have, if you get dominated in the trenches, you're going to be a mediocre team at best. And at the bottom of the SEC West.

Look at the OL and DL depth chart especially the Fr and Soph. It is just not there any longer.
We made some really less than spectacular recruiting decisions over the last several years.

Respectfully disagree.
Same here. Fournette is averaging well over 5 ypc yet the coaches refuse to pump him the ball 20 times a game. The OL was actually opening holes on first down last night. It was the 2nd and third down play-calling and QB execution that sucked. Defensively, the youth is a huge problem, along with coaching stubbornness in playing the best players. And missed tackling with athletes at this level is all about lack of technique and faulty schemes. Again, coaches missing the mark. D.B.'s in position to swat passes away and whiffing. Again, can be fixed by coaching. Hideous job by the entire coaching staff this year IMO. Harris had a horrible game as well but that kid will bounce back.

Someone who is 22/23 yrs old and has been training and learning at a high level program like ours or most in the SEC will usually trump a 5* Freshmen over the course of a game or season. Our guys just aren't sticking around in the program long enough.
How good would we have been last year with Montgomery and Mingo at DE, Simon at CB and Honey Badger as a senior? Man with that offense we would have won a natty. Forgot to add Minter at MLB we definitely win the whole thing.
2012 if we would have had Claiborne and Brockers as had Randle at WR and had Honey Badger man we could have won the whole show.
NFL losses are killing us, hopefully the new draft grade structure will reduce some of it but there has to be a reason. Money sure but are our guys the only ones who want money. LSU has 21 then Bama with 10. Why are our guys leaving in droves? It has to be more than just money.

There is no game plan that keeps us in that game. Sorry bro.
Accept this and move on.

It is the coaches who recruited the players we have. It is on the Head Coach who botched 1-9 and has not change his offense since. LSU is no longer attractive to top QBs and WR.
Posted on 10/5/14 at 11:54 am to GregMaddux
There is plenty of talent at the WR and RB position. The whole defense is weak, and not sure how that happened since most were highly recruited. Either talent evaluation or development is a problem. I don't think anyone on the defensive side of the ball knows how to tackle.

We do have the talent. Unfortunately the youth is just not ready. We are spoiled with young players making inpacts early like Tyrann.
Sometimes we luck out with 3 star guys turning out to be All-SEC such as Claiborne. But this year, none of that is happening....yet.
I believe Auburn and MooSt are probably 2 of the best teams in the nation, and we played poorly in those games as we bring along young quarterbacks. But its the defense that has failed us. Cannot continue to lose Juniors to NFL while our freshman have to play senior heavy teams.

So you readily accept that we can't even stay on the field against Miss St and Auburn? Just think about what you just said. Our program is at a level that we can't even be competitbe with our SEC West opponents.

We are light on talent at the moment. Deal with it. It wasn't the coaches. It wasn't the qb. The whole team is weak.

In the 90's, fans asked "How can we be losing with all the talent we have?".
At that time, I always pointed out that our "talented" players were choosing LSU over schools such as Southern Miss.
When players are choosing LSU over the top programs, then you can ask that.
Now, we do have the talent, which must be developed and properly used by the very expensive coaching staff.

I'm not sure you understand the difference between facts and opinions.
A fact would be that we lost to Auburn 41-7
An opinion would be that we had just as much talent

I actually agree. Our coaching is shite, but our boys are slower, weaker, and less coordinated than peer competitors.

Not true...now developing that talent, especially on the D-Line, then yeah that has really gone down.
