Used to have to secure these coaches bc they were good at recruiting. Recruiting is now the XFER portal - all you need is $$$. Look that’s why Nick Saban peaced out.

Indiana just gave their guy an 8M a year extension before he's even beaten a ranked team
I’d hire him tomorrow

BK held the leverage. You want a “splash” hire you have to pay. The demand FAR exceeds the supply.
The issue is LSU doesn’t have a forward thinking AD. He’s essentially a fundraiser whose approach to hiring is raise enough money to buy the best resume possible. That’s a good approach, except…
College sports have changed. No longer does the coach have all of the leverage in the locker room. The old way of doing things doesn’t exist anymore. You can not like it and which for the old days, or you can accept reality. Saban accepted reality and left. Coach K did too. Same for Tony Bennett at UVA. All championship caliber coaches. All accepted they are not built for this new business model.
I think it is becoming clear BK is in that boat. Unfortunately, LSU’s AD didn’t see the changing landscape, and in the process signed a long term lease for a property within an old neighborhood on the decline

Because if you don’t pay market value, you don’t get who you want. This is pretty basic stuff.
