you said it yourself many of times, this defense has been dominated by mediocre offenses all year...why was this game any different?
Lsu's offense played down to its opponent and its defense did play down slightly more then it normally does.
considering the year this team has had, i fail to see any big difference.

2003 National Championship???
The ignorance on the board never fails to entertain me

The fun thing about arguing over entirely subjective definitions is that no one can ever tell you conclusively that you're wrong

this thread isn't meant to blow saban, he could have recruited better and had 2004 in a better position, but the fact remains that 2004 is not close to as talented as this 2008 team.
anybody who'd take the 2004 LSU tigers over the 2008 tigers based on pure talent is just lying to themselves
2004 was handled exactly once (UGA). 2008 has been handled 2.75 times). and 2004 LSU had the AU game, which is comparable (but better) than the 2008 Bama game. 2004 LSU > 2008 LSU, and there realy isn't an excuse for that, but the seasons aren't fully comparable

dude, we lost 3 juniors and a bunch of seniors and it hurt b/c we didn't have the depth that we do now
hell we didn't even lose any juniors after last year. that's b/c we're DEEP
2004 = rebuilding year
2008 = not a rebuilding year

we were dominated for 3 quarters. 75% of the game

You usually make some decent points - not one of your best efforts here.

QB is 1 of 22 positions on the field, not counting special teams
and we had to rely on a RS Frosh a good bit in 2004

oh so you'd take 2004 LSU over 2008 LSU in a talent competition?

Our linebackers aren't even average and when we start Favorite and Alexander at DL, the DL is mediocre at best.

We did win the game and had a 30 point quarter. I wish I could have watched the game to know what happened better myself, but no matter what we weren't dominated.

they weren't good in 2004 either
LSU rarely has good LBs. we had average LBs in 2003 and 2007

we still have RJF, who would have been the best DL in 2004, and ton of great DEs

dude the yardage at half was like 250 to 60 or something
the first down count, i believe, was 13 to 1

QB is not the issue right now. The offense has been able to put up plenty of points when it has to.
There is no reason LSU should have been in that position last night. Coaches aren't doing enough to prepare the team or don't know what they're doing.

quote:You can nitpick the talent on the two teams (this team also has lots of holes/inexperience at key spots), but your basic premise, that Saban was still building in 2004, is pretty weak.

our sometimes bad, sometimes good offense wouldn't be as big of a deal if our D could stop troy last night
the only thing that stopped troy was dropped passes, the occasional pick, and non-calls by refs
