We lost to Bama in the National Championship game. Our coach and starting QB (indeed the whole team) looked bad.
But...
We went 13-1 - arguably the greatest season in LSU history. And one of the greatest in college football history. even the loss to Bama willbe historic because of the greatness of our season.
Sure our coach is a bit of a goober at times and (like all coaches) has his bad mistakes - but he was consensus national coach of the year and is a veritable star on ESPN. No matter what he does wrong, he does a LOT more things right.
Our program is well-respected, not just for what we do on the field, but for how th staff and school handle the problems that invariably come up for ANY college football program.
We're on national TV virtually every week.
We had the Bednarik Award Winner, the Thorpe Award Winner, and an invitee to the Heisman. We also had the Broyles Assitant Coach of the Year. And our punter SHOULD have won the Ray Guy award easily - only reason he didn't is because he was a true freshman. We'll have one of the Heisman front-runners in 2012.
Our program is genrally considered an SEC and national contender year in and year out.
We've averaged more than 10 wins per season since 2005, finished in the top 10 four times during that period and ranked all but 1 year, and won a national championship and two SEC championships. (Oh, no other coach in LSU history - including Nick Saban - even comes close.)
Most people regard us as possible #1 or #2 going into next season. We return most of our key starters and potentially upgrade at QB.
We've had top 10 recruiting classes for at least the last 6-7 years and will be up there again this year.
I've been an LSU football fan for nearly 40 years. It's never been anywhere close to this awesome of an outlook.
LSU football is a premier program and should continue to be into the forseeable future.
Screw Bama!
And screw all of you who just want to point to the negatives!
I choose to look at the outstanding positives about LSU football.
And I can't wait until Sep 1, 2012!!!!

i agree with what you're trying to do but none of the A-holes in here want to hear it right now

But we were a decent offensive gameplan away from winning the 4th National Title.
Not a great offensive gameplan, not even really a good gameplan. Just a decent gameplan and the game could have been completely different because the defense played good enough to win.

Yeah, because a "decent offensive game plan" beats one of the 20 best defenses in NCAA history every time....

right, pretty sure we all know that.
JMO but I prefer to enjoy the things that were actually accomplished, not what coulda been- too painful for that so Im ok today with a SEC Championship and a undefeated regular season

WTF is this? Are you an idiot? 2007 was a MUCH better season. This isn't arguable as the best season.

Yet this team did not win a national championship. How could it be considered the greatest?

Thanks for the sensible post.
LSU had a great season and is SEC Champions. We have a great coach.
LSU was soundly beat in the trenches. Anyone who believes Lee would have changed the outcome of the game or the program is in jeopardy is delusional.
LSU has never been stronger. The future is bright.

I don't consider it the greatest. But you and your ilk continue to shite on the team, program and coach and shite on their accomplishments this season.

I have chosen to take your approach. I, well we all, are not crystal clear on what all happened. We are upset that we had no answer in any phase of the game.
But telling ourselves that the Golden Age of Tiger Footbal is over would be simply giving up and useless.
I do understand that the majority of those mad tiger fans are simply questioning what happenned. While the minority are saying the sky is falling, and saying that recruits are better off by going somewhere else.
