From Cody Worsham on "Hey Fightin' Podcast" Sometime in August
LSU has been known for dynamic duos in their receiving cores (OBJ/Landry being the most notable). But once is a blue moon, LSU has a receiver TRIO that shares the majority of completions. Since 2000, LSU has had three separate seasons with a receiving trio where each receiver has at least 500 yards on the season. Those years were arguably the three best years in Tiger Football, until this year, since 2000:
- 2003 (Won Natty)Clayton, Henderson, Green
- 2006 (Won Sugar bowl)Doucet, Davis, Bowe
- 2007 (Won Natty)Doucet, Lafell, Byrd
Going into this year, everyone knew we had a lethal trio in Chase, Jefferson, and Marshall. All we needed is a QB that could get it to them. Here's what they all currently have:
Chase: 1,559 yards
Jefferson: 1,434
Marshall: 625 yards
So there you have it. LSU receiving trios = unstoppable air raid extravaganza. Obviously we've been gifted with 3 incredible receivers in this year's trio (and Joey), but I would say that a system focusing on three targets rather than two, regardless of the skill level, is the winning formula.

This. Even with OU knowing CEH was not 100% they over committed to him, then didnt know how to cover Moss out wide

Moss has 534 yards on the season too.

The difference maker this year compared to even those natty years was the success at tight end. I was just implying that a passing attack of three versatile receivers is the winning formula, compared to two

Not like our tight end was chop liver in 2006 and 2007.

I get your point but you don’t think it has more to do with a competent QB?
I have no doubt Andrew Hatch would struggle with a trio of Josh Reed, OBJ, and Chase

Perhaps, but I think if your give the medium-tier LSU QB'S like Etling and Mettenberger one more target in the passing attack, who has the equal amount of opportunities to make catches as the top two receivers, regarless of that receiver's talent, then who knows what would happen.

I don't get the hate for Hatch. Yeah he wasn't the most talented, but he did what he was asked to do, manage the games. He just couldn't stay healthy.
His LSU stats: 3-0 as a starter, 26-47 passes completed for 286 yards with 1 INT, 2 TD's.
That was LSU football under Les Miles in a nutshell.
Hatch graduated from Harvard in 2012.
