I don't understand how someone can be ruled academically ineligible when they haven't even taken finals yet.

Were people saying that he was already ruled ineligible? I thought they were saying he was in danger of it.

Fwiw, he is a senior. And lots of times seniors don't have to take finals unless they choose to. Usually to bring up their grade. This could be to bring it up from an F to a D or from a B to an A.

If you have quit going to class around mid-semester, odds are you will fail.....

Statement he released was the smartest one possible.

You are correct. I don't recall anyone saying JL or anyone else was out for the postseasson. Just in the "danger zone".....

WTF are you talking about? The notion that Lee is in at least some trouble is not really up for debate. Those guys, as big of douches as they are as posters, never said he was ineligible.

The academic issues have always been rumor, and they will be up until the minute they aren't. Alleva really hasn't said anything with this statement. I do enjoy that the rant got a shout out from him - who else could that "message board" crack be about?

I figured that it was impossible to rule someone ineligible before finals week.

“Despite media and message board speculation, no LSU student-athletes have been declared ineligible for post-season competition. The current semester is not complete and finals are still ahead, so it is grossly unfair to our student-athletes and it is both premature and irresponsible to speculate on the final grades and postseason eligibility of our student-athletes.”

This is not a denial. Just says they still have time, but if there grade is so bad that it doesn't matter what they make on their final they are still eligible at this point.

bingo....

It is highly conceivable, even if Lee is having trouble, that his finals will provide him the necessary marks.

BeeFense's original post after the WKU game about this "rumor" is even MORE laughable now.

I understand your point. However, I suspect that by this juncture in the semester, if a student had particularly high grades in his classes, even a poor showing on finals wouldn't render him ineligible. At least, that's how I recall it from my days at LSU. If I (theoretically) had a 95 average going into a final, I could flunk it and still get a B for the semester. Conversely, if I had a 65 average going into the final, I would have to ace it to get a B. But there may be classes where the final is the sole or major basis for the grade. I wasn't criticizing Alleva's statement so mush as wishing that we could categorically refute potential academic ineligibility so that we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with it (as fans) for the next month. No such luck.

The main thing I took from Alleva's statement is that this doesn't appear to be an issue for the SECCG, only the bowl game, since finals apparently occur after the SECCG.

Gotta love anonymous posters with double secret I could tell ya but then would have to kill you "sources"

Truth is most folks who actually have sources don't run to message boards to anonymously post the info they may happen to glean.

You are full of shite. Im not sure how you don't understand that AT THIS MOMENT no one is ineligible because the semester isn't over. I have remained consistent saying that Lee is in jeopardy of being ineligible though and that wouldn't take effect until bowl season.
