State of our Coaching Staff- Just My Opinion

Chavis- A top 10 DC in the country; we are a top 10 program so he is good enough for me.(A)
Haley- Has been an upgrade from the moron we had before; seems to be doing a nice job developing some of the new talent like Montgomery, Mingo.(B)
Cooper- Our defensive backfield looks deep and strong and was a top 3 backfield nationally all year minus the Arkansas debacle.(A)
Wilson- I don't care about his coaching ability, just let the man recruit.(A)
Ensminger- The Tight Ends seem to be developing nicely from a receiving and blocking standpoint.(B)
Gonzales- Still has to prove himself; hard to do so with Jefferson and Lee at QB (C)
Stud- the line was better this year than last, but just isn't a dominating line like at some of the other schools in the conference.(D)
Crowton- I think he can draw up some good plays, but he just doesn't always know the right time to use the right play. He also cannot develop QB's. The stats the last 2 years speak for themselves.(F)
Robinson- Best Special Teams coach in the country.(A)
Moffitt- Best Strength and Conditioning Coach in the country.(A)
Miles- Great recruiter; seems to find very good talent and character men all around; runs a very clean program; needs to just stick to running the program and making the key decisions in a game (go for it on fourth or punt, etc.) and let his coordinators coordinate. (B)
This is how I would grade them out. If you replace Crowton and Stud with the right hires, you have an OUTSTANDING all around staff that is a top 5 staff in the country.

Pretty good summary.
Might put Chavis as a B
We tend to give up some BIG plays eg. ARK

Sounds correct. Let's make the needed changes.

This. How the frick would you give him an A. The guy has not stopped a great offense at all.

VERY NICE analysis. Agree.

I may dock Miles a letter grade for the sole reason that he has allowed Gary Crowton to remain at LSU during this season.

Pretty spot on
Although I would give Crowton whatever grade is lower than F.

So what would you say? C ?
Posted on 12/28/10 at 5:23 pm to Springlake Tiger
good post but i would drop all offensive coaches a letter grae and give crowton and incomplete

My mistake, it was supposed to be directed towards OP. I say B, definitely not A or C.

Certainly a vast improvement over the 2 headed monster we endured

our off line wasnt below avg, so Id give stud a c.
agree with most the rest, chavis may need a b though.

you just don't give out A+ do you? 2 "best at their positions" but don't justify an A+?

Man, y'all have turned your back on Crowton; just flat out have given up on him.
In 2007, folks were talking about Crowton being one of the premier coordinators in the country and a huge improvement from Jimbo Fisher, now you want him gone yesterday.

Well, at first, we thought Miles had picked one of the best OCs in the country. We were like
"This is it!!!
But then we began to see that "He (Miles) chose poorly."
And our offense went to
And yeah, this belongs on the movie board.

yes, i have given up on him. like i mentioned in my original post, he can draw up some innovative plays. he lacks the ability to find and then develop QB's. he lacks fire and is too nice. he seems like a good man, and since his annual salary and buyout are worth more $ than I can fathom, I really don't feel sorry for him and his family. have a nice life Gary.

What about all the times our punt return got exploited by short kicks hitting blockers and the other team recovering the ball? This happened more than once and at very inconvenient times.

Moffitt- Best Strength and Conditioning Coach in the country.(A)
LSU players are consistently under developed compared to others during the NFL combines. Has anyone considered this as a possibility for so many prestigious recruits not putting out?

Since Moffitt joined the Tigers for the 2000 season, they have become one of the most fit programs in the nation, as witnessed by their success in the fourth quarter each of the past six seasons.
This is LSUSports justification for him being good. Fourth quarter success?
