When I go, I stay until the end. Just don't have that many opportunities because of kids' activities.
That said, the primary driver(s) I see for lack of attendance/lack of enthusiasm are:
a) quality of home opponents
b) lack of quality of OOC home opponents (and the fact that LSU usually gives up the only good one for a "neutral site" game)
c) cost
I think the last one is the biggest. Let's face it, season tickets are fricking expensive as shite. I have a total of 6 and with the tickets, parking pass and Tradition Fund, that's a big hit and one that a lot of "good old boys" can't shell out. These are the "blue collar" folks that would trek to Baton Rouge from all over South Louisiana, spend all day lubing up and then howling until the last gun. They're the ones that turned Tiger Stadium into a place to fear. And they've been priced out of the venue.

We stayed until about the same time and it was rough. I don't even remember the September day games from 2011 being that miserable.

It's a mild hassle to go to a football game (parking, traffic, etc). But if you (not you personally) feel that way, why even go?
Why don't people get this without having it need to be explained?! It's common sense.

The tailgating experience has become more important that the actual game. Fans get there 6-8 hours before gametime, eat and drink all day then go into game. By mid game most are whipped and the TV watching experience is so great nowadays. I dont think all fans leave the games to beat traffic but many go back out to their tailgate to watch the game or other games. It is just the way it is with all games being on TV today.

LSU attendance and staying at the game must match certain specific criteria.
1)It must be an opponent we think is equal or better than us, given the fact we don't think there are any of those except for Alabama or a flukey high ranked team (UF last year, Ole Miss and Arky better but LSU fans don't want to see thatm rankings are everything to this bunch, we are limited to max of 1 of those a year when we are visiting Bama, 2 if Bama is coming here.
2) The rest of the games fit one of three scenarios:
A) An inferior opponent that we beat badly=empty stadium. About time, we are too inconsistent, we are going to win the National Championship, but may need to fire the coaches..I hate the coaches and the AD.
B) An inferior opponent we don't beat badly=empty stadium..fire all coaches, I hate the coaches, Joe Alleva screwed his Lacrosse team, just look at Johnny Jones, the better hire Fisher (oh shite, Fisher lost by 100) HERMANNNNNN.
C) We lose to an inferior opponent. World ends, so I must leave early to get my shite in order.

That's what I'm saying. A person goes and just deals with all the b.s. because it's fun to experience live in the stadium. But, there comes a point where you just want to spread out and still watch the game. With a 20 point lead and LSU not really moving the ball anymore, most people took that as their cue to leave.
Like I said, big deal. The real "big deal" here is that the team squandered away a 20 point lead. That's where the focus needs to be. Not on the fans leaving.

knowing CLM is going to come out flat in the the second half and try to sit on a lead if he has one

Should just stop selling upper deck seating and cover them with Purple and Gold tarps stretched out. Force everyone into the bowl so at least it may appear full.
No, then the other SEC fanbases would make fun of us. I'm not sure I can handle that right now. It would trigger me into a safe space for sure.

This is like saying "I know an alcoholic has problems, but it has nothing to do with him thinking that he can drink and get away with it this time".

Administration doesn't care about buts in the seat as long as that seat has been sold. With that said there is an apathy surrounding the program this year, if we beat Auburn the stadium will be full for Mizzo.

Look. I don't give a damn if people want to stay or leave. That's their business. The thread is discussing the "why" they leave and most of the reasons discussed in the OP have been present LONG before the last 5-10 years
Maybe it's just me, but I don't quite understand why people would go through the trouble and expense of attending the game then leave before the outcome is decided (or at least apparent). That stadium started emptying out right after halftime Sat. LSU led 23-6 in the third. A good lead, but certainly not insurmountable. However, I've seen the stadium empty out in the 3rd when it was a 3 point game.
Are people just going to watch the kickoff, a little bit of the game, and that's it? Is that where the entertainment value is reached? That's kind of like going to a movie, watching the first hour or so and then saying "I think I know what will happen at the end. That's good enough for me."
I fully understand people bailing if LSU has a 35-3 lead midway through the third against someone like Western Kentucky. However, that stadium will empty out (maybe to a lesser extent) in the 3Q in a 14-10 game vs. someone like Ark.

Mississippi State isn't an exciting team. They lost to South Alabama. LSU appeared to have a comfortable lead. One would naturally assume they'd only extend the lead in the second allowing PT for the younger guys. That's why I think the stadium mainly cleared out.

Aging in-stadium fanbase
But yet, it's the student section that empties like a drain has been pulled at halftime.

I agree with you, but it ain't just the blue collars refusing to go to games either. We usually have get togethers for LSU games and many are not going to games because of the expense and traffic. Less hassle watching the game at home or at a friend's home. Basically "tailgating" at the house, watching the game, and "tailgating" after. Cheaper, less stress and way more fun.

I'm so damn sick of hearing about the heat...dear lord I've never in my life heard so many "grown men" complain about having to SIT in the sun and be hot while watching, the team they supposedly love and support, play football... bunch of little girls. Can we just all agree that everyone bitching about the heat is just a giant pussy? Omg you poor thing, you have to actually sweat and be outside in the sun to watch LSU play at home.... it's pathetic and very very sad...

I am with you 100% on this, i may have left 5 minutes early but there is no way that i would spend the time, money, and effort to go to a game and leave midway through no matter how miserably hot and humid it is

Ha you're getting downvoted because you're exactly right but people don't want to hear the truth bc it hurts their feelings and makes them realize they're actually a shitty fan.
