Watching an experienced SEC defense shredded by LSU freshman signal caller TJ Finley was eye opening. He looked poised and under control. Some players adjust quicker to the college game than others, but Finley truly deserves credit, as does the LSU offensive coaching staff, for preparing and executing the game plan.

Best opening performance in LSU history? Debatable. Bottom line, Finley looked like he belonged behind center for the Tigers. The Louisiana high school product showed why LSU coveted his talents coming out of high school.

quote:

Many bigger quarterbacks display an elongated throwing motion. They possess longer arms so it’s natural for them to need just a split second more to release the football.

While Finley is 6-foot-6, 250-pounds, he provides an over-the-top delivery that does not waste time with extra movements while his hand holds the football behind his head. It’s directly back behind him, and then forward to release the football.

quote:

Sometimes quarterbacks power up and throw the football too hard. It leads to accuracy issues. Finley showed he can throw a bullet and continue to be accurate. Case in point, Finley’s over the middle 51-yard touchdown completion to wide receiver Terrace Marshall.

quote:

Perhaps that’s the most surprising aspect of Finley’s first performance in Death Valley. Rarely do young signal callers command the touch that Finley displayed. That leads to fewer errant throws and fewer tipped passes off of receivers’ hands that end up being intercepted.

quote:

Crossing routes, roll-out passes, bubble screens, short passes into the flat, hitch routes, and slants were all a part of LSU’s game plan. None of it is all that surprising. It’s just how crisp and consistent Finley and skill position players executed.

From this foundation, LSU can truly expand the play book and build Finley’s game even more. It’s exciting to think what the Tigers can do this season and beyond.

LSU football has a young gunslinger. LSU football fans have something special to look forward to watching.

Bout time they focused on feeding the young backs to set the tone. Ingram healthy is huge. But before it seemed like they just ran to keeo defenses honest. U could see it was really pushed by the staff to help TJ. I thought yday offensive plan was exactly How they would start the post Burrow offensive system. I was very excited to watch that last night but if Myles had that support at worst were 3-1 Rt now. Myles should sit a week to ensure hes 100% if he rushes it bec of TJ’s success and struggles then it will get sketchy. Let TJ start vs AU. If he does well then reevaluate and or put Myles on a shorter leash. Myles has made history passing in first 3 games. He deserves his spot imo if he’s ready at AU. If he’s not and TJ lights up a good AU D it’s gonna get interesting. O will have his work cut out. We don’t need a divided team. We’re fkin solid season qb. And max can fly. A Tebow type package would be great imo.

Were a much bigger part of the gameplan against SC than in previous games. That, combined with a dedication to run the damn ball and the O-line playing at a higher level than any time in the season and people are all set and ready to move on fom Brennan. A kid who has done everything right, waited patiently, earned his spot, and put up ridiculous numbers in all of his starts. I'm excited about TJ, but for frick's sake. It was one game. Maybe the staff should give Myles the benefit of 250 yards on the ground, a passing attack that relies on 5-10 yard quick passes, and a line that can actually keep defenders out of the backfield, and see how he compares.

So since we're into overreactions, do we go back to Brennan or try out Johnson when Finley inevitably struggles?

No!! We are loyal to Myles Brennan, he waited his turn and has thrown for 370 YPG on 44 attempts per game

Don't even really have to be loyal to him because he waited. He's played extremely well and if he gets the benefit of the same game plan as we ran last night, he will put up even better numbers. He's the right guy for the job right now.

The Oline dominated which won't be the case going forward. MB is the starter but TJ's performance will have O thinking when things go off the rails. I would be very surprised if it goes any other way. Will Myles be ready for Auburn? Should be interesting how it plays out.

If Ensminger uses the short passing game to keep the rush guessing like he did yesterday instead of all of the long developing pass routes, the line will be fine.

What is wrong with the positive information. Finley deserves it.
Let recruits know we are a QB school.
Finley, in addition to his football talent, seems to be a good dude.
He shares the accolades with his team and coaches.

TJ and the staff indeed deserve alot of credit. Both of them. I'm glad to see it happening outside SEC and football circles with SI.

TJ's performance was indeed very pleasantly surprising. To do that against a Boom coached team with those corners is pretty spectacular.

SI might be intending to stir some shite up here. Maybe. Don't care... glad to see them get the ink.

Yes, Myles is our starting QB and Finley will be the now confirmed extremely capable backup. Maybe it goes another way. We'll see. But he did something pretty amazing and it's nice to see TJ and the coaches get that acknowledgement.

Don't forget the standard we use to live by...
Always wanting the backup QB to play just to see him get put in impossible positions with not enough coaching and fail just like his predecessor.

THIS is refreshing. Ignore SI's intentions or presumed intentions and relish, nay- wallow, in what the core of the story is. This was the dream.

Now go punch Pelini CEO and get this shite going.
