Story goes that he left politics after only one term ( questioning my memory here) because he couldn't stomach all the daily crap he had to put up with as a politician. The GOP lost a great representative when he stepped down.

Yeah, I knew him a bit back then. He ran strictly to get rid of a corrupt Democrat incumbent. In 1995, the GOP went from 6 to 14 state senators, and Casanova was the star of that group for sure. But he did it for duty, and then he left after a term because he'd done his duty.

A great guy, and an incredible representative of LSU.

My favorite player of all time at LSU. I really hate saying favorite, because we have such a wonderful group of men that have come before and after him, but he was grace on the field. Ran like he was gliding and was always playing to his maximum ability. I have a ball signed by him that is a prized possession. May God watch over him and his family.

I watched him play many times. He was absolutely the best I’ve seen. Also watched him run track. He had world class speed and blew the rest of the field away in sprints. He’d have been an all American running back but Coach Mac needed him on defense.

He was a tremendous athlete and an outstanding human being

Which is why 50 years later people still talk about him in Cincinnati where he only spent 6 seasons. Retired at 28.

That 1969 defense held team to 38.9 yards a game rushing.

That defense was one of if not the best to ever suit up at LSU. The funny part is LSU didn’t have the talent but just played hard. Very few players made it to the NFL off of those teams. Just a terrible coaching decision on not going for 2. Sickening Archie got us too.

1969 defense
Gave up 91 total points in 10 games
Held 7 of 10 opponents to 10 points or less with 3 shut outs
Held 9 of 10 opponents to <20 points per game
Gave up 26 to Mississippi in only loss.
Only Archie Manning and Pat Sullivan got to 20 on them.
Can't find a 69 team photo. 70 will have to do...........
