His 2007 BCS championship game gives him a pass to me. That was a thing of beauty and we have never seen it since.

Gave Miles a pass for many years as well.

I really think Crowton screwed up so bad, it made Miles the micromanager coach he is today, offensively. However, I do not think it was all Crowton. We've had consistently similar QB issues since Crowton left. I will always be thankful for the 2007 offense, truly one of the most imaginative and creative offenses we've seen in a quite a while.

I agree. I know Gary Crowton hasn't exactly torn up the coaching world since leaving LSU, but, at that time, he was doing a good job. His offenses at La Tech broke some NCAA records, and the 2007 season had some very creative play calling and kept defenses off balance a bit.

There are a lot of "hot one day, cold the next" offensive minds that come through football, and I know he is one of them. But, we'd all die to have the 2007 offense with this year's team and talent.

The massive substitutions weren't exactly his fault. He NEVER did stuff like that at Tech. It was simply Miles letting Crowton run some of his pass packages, but then wanting an instant shift back to a power run formation. At this point, is it really a stretch to believe that Miles takes the reigns out of his OC's hands? At least in 2007, he let Crowton run things mostly on his own. We can all see where the progression of taking back the offense by Miles, started.
