When in doubt, play the youngest player with the most upside. That means Doyle, Andrews and Dawson

There is an apparent hang up with going completely young. Unfortunately, that's where we are. It's not a rebuilding year per se but a year to play the best talent. We have the pitching! Put the best OBP order that gives you the best defensive chance. Pretty simple.

I agree with 357. They need to bring somebody to help with the hitting. I like Howard btw.

Maybe once this year we have had our best 9 hitters in the line up at the same time. That's on the coaches, not the players.

She is reaching but refuses to give the best order a chance. Using Dawson or Quinn as DP is not a bad idea. Flex with the right player is the key.

This team will be great if you stuck to best everyday and rode with it. There is still time.

Personally I just want the best offensive players on the field at this point, order wise we keep changing and see zero success. I'm afraid we will continue to have these issues until the season is over. The order is not going to change their mechanics, it's only going to continue to get exposed more.

I like Howard as well, good guy, not bad coach either but this situation is a bit aggravating to be honest.

Hopefully we can scatter hits and capitalize when we can with our staff. The Tennessee series could be really rough.

Tennessee is a wide open swing away team that scores runs and to beat them you might have to put up three or four runs per game. No lefties to face with them but their two pitchers are pretty good.

If the coach cant deal with the hitting issues maybe time to get othrt help. Springfield needs a total re-do and may need someone to work with her individually and extensively.

Use Dawson as full time DP and pinch hit Gorsuch and Waljasper when the need arises.

Maybe that explains why she is a 20 year old freshman. Hell she is older than some of our juniors! Could you imagine our junior class only being freshman right now...2 extra years of body and mental maturing. They would be crazy good!

That's why Gorsuch is our #1 pitcher.

Apparently it is not simple. I have been getting blasted for saying this for the last 4 months.

Doyle looks great at third

She looked really good there all fall as well. I'm not sure what caused the position change when she seemed to clearly win this position this fall. She did not hit well all fall but her defense was good and her bat speed is second to none on the team.

I think Doyle has a real talent to be a high level baller at LSU.

She has outproduced every DP so far. Will she continue to do so? No way to know, maybe, maybe not. I agree with others and believe she should at least be given a few games in a row to find out.

quote:

Did you watch the first Ole Miss game when she obviously missed a steal sign

Must not have been obvious. I watched the game a couple of times and didn't see it. Did someone tell you this?

quote:

Then, when Nikki did reach 2nd, she didn't tag up and advance to 3rd on Landry's fly ball to left

She did tag up and when she saw the throw was going to beat her she high tailed it back to second. Pretty heads up base running to make that adjustment on the fly. "Smart decision by Dawson to get back" per ESPN. Never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd. Only go if you are 100% certain you can make it. If not, retreat is the basic rule of advancing in this situation.

quote:

No excuse not to tag up.

Agree, that's why she did tag up.

quote:

Seeing that sequence gave me a lot of insight as to why she hasn't been a full time regular starter.

You read something into this sequence that wasn't visual. There was no "obvious" missed sign (not saying there wasn't one) and she did tag at second. Then she almost made the play of the series tagging from 2nd to score on a deep fly ball.

Nice redirect. Goursich is over rated as a pitcher. Always has been. Ask around Texas, prayed on weak teams and was coddled by a daddy for a coach. Sure hope she can hit!

Beth is with these girls daily. There has to be a reason why Nicky is not put somewhere else, like third base, or in the outfield. Has to be.. same with Cunningham.

I know yall hate "stories" but we had a third baseman that was mediocre and his father, and a bunch of fans, thought he should start over a decent player who had played that position for years. When the regular got hurt, and the aspiring third baseman got his chance, it was not pretty. He turned out to be less of a hitter than they all said he was, and he struggled at third base on defense.

I say all this to point out that maybe Beth fears she'd be pushing it, and setting someone up for disappointment if she put a player out there, like at 3rd base, a critical position, and that player failed miserably.

I think Beth is unselfish enough that she is going to refrain from proving everyone wrong to justify the lineup she makes, and she is going to wait until she feels these people who are being pushed are in fact ready to play.

Andrews took a full swing and miss, which she never does, and which most LSU batters do when a steal is called, so Nikki could steal 2nd, but Nikki didn't go anywhere.

So in your expert opinion this is how you know Dawson missed a steal sign?? Because Andrews took a full cut? Maybe there was no steal signal or maybe Dawson didn't get a good jump or maybe Torina gave Andrews the swing away signal. Then again, maybe there were no signals at all given and everybody is just doing their own thing.

quote:

Then, when Nikki did reach 2nd, she didn't tag up and advance to 3rd on Landry's fly ball to left that the left fielder caught in foul territory running away from the play.

Tagging up from 2nd and advancing to 3rd on a flyball to left? This isn't 10u ball buddy. The play was in front of Dawson and if she felt she could have made it, she would have went.

Seeing that sequence gave me a lot of insight as to why she hasn't been a full time regular starter. Having all the athletic ability in the world doesn't make up for mental mistakes.

This entire post has given me plenty of insight, as well. There are plenty of mental mistakes happening across the board but I'm not sure where I see any mental mistakes from her this game. You need to quit hating on her and get in line.

How has Sanchez done there? I might be missing something but that is basically what she has done.

Sanchez has struggled and i think if Springfield was hitting maybe doyle would be at third and sprinffield at first then Nicky at DP. I agree Sanchez should sit.
