Beth has to completely change her philosophy on recruiting.
Need sluggers.
Springfield staying?

Tigerbait,
Can you project our starting lineup next year?

Don't agree. Doyle was a highly regarded recruit and Springfield has all of the tools to be a successful middle of the order hitter. To bring two in like that in the same class is solid.

I know you are anti-slapper but you have to have runners on base in order for the "sluggers" to do the job. Our slappers have been very, very good this year and the two freshman slappers are outstanding at getting on base. We have had no one to drive them in. We are one hitter away this year from being completely different. We have no one to hit behind Jaquish. When that happens you have to do other things to 'protect' and for whatever reasons the staff has chosen not to try anything different with the top of the order.

Griggs has been much better as a hitter than a slapper, maybe she should be pushed down in the order. She is very slow and doesn't have the ability to challenge the defense like some of the others. Quinn is predictable and consistent. When she is hot, she is as good as anyone in short stretches. When she is not she is a below average hitter. You have to ride her while she is seeing it well and drop her when she is not.

SC has bad pitching. That would tell me maybe Springfield could perform. She was overmatched against the very good SEC pitching but has shown that against average pitching she is a wrecking ball.

At this point I don't see what it would hurt to completely shake things up and go way outside of the box.

We had he #2 recruiting class in the country last year.

If you want to say, "Beth needs to evaluate her handling of hitters and personnel once they get on campus", I would agree with you. But to say we are not bringing in high level recruiting classes is not true.

yup...i like getting slappers on then driving them home utilizing their speed. You should not be slapping anyway if you do not have the speed to outrun throws based on ball placement( drag bunt, softslap in hole, hard slap into ground) and to steal bases.

what the other poster seems to be equivocating is he wants a year in year out traditional power hitting team like coach lotief's ragin cajuns. He has had one of the best hitting teams in the nation for years. Remember some of what he does is not done by hardly any others and could almost be called "proprietary" but it works. I am fine with that change IF that is the direction beth wants to turn to moving forward. Up to beth what style of offense she wants to employ and what types of hitters or combos of hitters.

Here are a few examples of where the ragin cajuns rank nationally just this year in some hitting stats:

#4 in batting average
#1 in scoring
#1 in homeruns per game
#2 slugging %
#1 on base %

ragin cajuns stats 2017

I am sure somebody will be here soon to poo poo the sunbelt conference but I am just giving the numbers. You can feel free to view them however you wish.

I know ULL doesn't play the best schedule in the world but they still put up power numbers against elite teams as well. Look at A&M game this year.

This freshman class is a really good one. Doyle and Springfield are the definition of power hitters. Dawson has a lot more power than what is bein shown. Andrews is improving a lot. She will be fine. I see a lot of teams across the country wit much less talent than LSU and they put up much more power numbers than us.

I mentioned before about ULL, Arizone, Oregon, UCLA, Florida, A&M. A lot of teams these days recruit talented players than revamp all the mechanics. You see a lot of success. A lot of players comin out of hs have a lot of flaws in their hitting approach.

Now, I don't think Dobson is a bad coach but my issue with him is we do nothing to alter these players mechanics. It is eating us alive and now everyone knows LSU's flaws at the plate. It caught up to us last year as well. Serrett is a lot better hitter than what we even see she really could easily put up 5-10 homers a year. She needs major adjustments to her swing.

I know a few others notice but we have too many players with poor positioning in the box. We have some that are so far back that they constantly get burned on the outside part of the plate. I see us swinging and not even reaching the ball because we are far back. Some get way too close then we jam ourselves.

I know people want to fault recruiting but having a top 15 class every year, top ten usually, recruiting isn't the issue. Its offensive approach, we have talent and pieces to work with but we need make these changes.

Why wouldn't she? If we change up her swing she will be hitting the middle of the lineup for the rest of her years here. She will be a monster in the SEC with a complete overhaul.

Doyle and Springfield are the definition of sluggers. Cunningham was a slugger too coming out HS but we haven't seen her at all.

I will assume Dawson will start at 2B for Quinn, Antoine at RF for Landry. Catcher is tricky and is most concerning. I really was expecting Cunningham, a top 30 recruit and highly talented catcher to get more time this year so I have no clue where she is for next year. It will be between her, Satchell, and Caccamise. Caccamise is really really good defensively but she has been a little erratic with her hs hitting. You never know until they get to campus.

It think next year team might be:
Andrews LF
Griggs CF
Antoine RF
Doyle/ Sanchez 3B
Serrett SS
Dawson 2B
Springfield/ Doyle 1B
Cunningham/ Caccamise/ Satchell C
Sunseri? DP

Throughout Coach Torina's tenure, I find it interesting that we've never had a left handed power hitter. The only one I could think of is Simmons, who wasn't even a power hitter. Do we have any left handed power hitting recruits? Or left handed pitchers?

Now back to this year's team. I think Torina should look at the team from her first year here. The team had a terrible batting average of .220 and had a even worse fielding position of .964. This team also lost there last 6 of 7.
The 2017 team is so much more talented than the 2012 team. The 2012 team got to OKC because they used the short game. They stole bases, they laid down bunts, and they hit sacrifice flies. They pitched great. I think the 2017 team can do the same thing, and they also have more talent. I think the 2017 team needs to use our speed. WE NEED TO STEAL MORE BASES. With Landry, Dawson, Andrews, Weinberger, and even Quinn. Sometimes it feels as if this team is just waiting for Bianka Bell or Sandra Simmons to hit a home run to get them started. This team is good enough to win, we just need to play good Defense, pitch good, and manufacture runs.

I'd put Jaquish in lead off position just to see what happens.

That is a fair criticism. He has improved us before but if he has hit his ceiling then i agree. let's make sure he has hit it before we run him over. It is beth's call.
