If he goes to baseball, it is because it is what he truly wants to do. He will never make as much money in baseball as he will in football.

i guess when your a coveted position player in high school, a big time pitching prospect in college, and a possible high round safety then you have some talent. I wish i had these kind of dilemmas

He has stated on numerous occasions that baseball is his first love. However, it's a much longer road to hoe to get to the big leagues. He would be in the mix from day one in the NFL.

+1

Hopefully he has good people, with his best interest, helping him reach the decision.

he is a "project" in baseball and nowhere near a sure bet. lefties that throw 95+ are at a premium, not ones that have "gusts" up to 91-92. He's not a power pitcher at the next level by any means.

ETA: if he leaves early, it'll be for football and you'll know very soon

When he was drafted in HS, was it as a pitcher or pos player?

I don't profess to know what his future holds, but I know he has repeatedly stated he likes baseball more than football. He was also very close to signing with the Astros out of HS.

We'll know soon if he doesn't enter the NFL draft this week and if he skips spring practice.

If you have a choice between baseball and football and everything else is equal you'd have to go with baseball.

More likely to have a longer career making more money per year... but I have to confess I'm not sure he's as good at baseball as he is at football

He would be if he trained just for that. It is amazing what he did in that timeframe while training (weights) for football and to be an outfielder. Once he gets flexibility and loses all that muscle, he would consistently throw at higher speeds. But he would have to go all out towards developing a pitchers type body and give up on Fball.

Outfielder with huge upside. No one ever really looked at him as a pitcher, probably because of his build and athletic talent

myth. muscle doesnt make you less mobile. better mechanics may help him throw a couple mph, but he's not going from 89-91 to 95+

A buddy of mine was drafted out of high school as a hitter, but pitched in the pros. He told me that the one reason he stayed in the pros for a while was because he was a LEFTY! These "wrong-handers" are very valuable in the big league.

I don't know about that. You have to be extraordinary to even make it out of AA ball. What I saw out of Chad Jones in the CWS showed me nothing to back up that he would be a good big league pitcher. He has two pitches and neither of them would beat just an average hitter at the highest level. He would be a project from day one.

yeah but by "pros", do you mean minors or majors. cause i have a buddy who pitched in the minors for 7 years or so, making peanuts. i think that would be CJ. Where they differ is that CJ would probably be a 1st rd pick in football making $. would you rather make $100,000/year for 8 years or $800,000/year for 5? and that's probably worst case scenario for CJ's football career

Right now CJ would go no lower than the 2nd round. That's a couple million guaranteed at least.

a couple over a few years right? not per/year? My $800,000 was a guess at what an early to mid 2nd pick would make per year. That's why i said worst case scenario....i think if he stays for senior year, he goes 1st rd...with a shot at gettin in the top 15. don't ya thnk?

i'd think one of the lesser known underclassmen. The josh john's and rocky duplesis'. also seems like we always have 7 kickers and 13 punters. they may not be on scholly though
