I'm not sure we do. These same flaws have been here for 8 of Les' 11 years here. What gives you confidence that he can fix it now.

Not sure where you're getting 8/11 from... I guess you could probably exclude '12, even though it's pretty well understood that Mettengerger did well during his time here. Certainly well enough in comparison to our leanest passing years. So that's 6/10 right there, seeing as how '15 hasn't been written yet.

2005 (11-2) - 188/311 2443 yards 15 TD 9 INT
2006 (11-2) - 232/342 3129 yards 28 TD 8 INT
2007 (12-2) - 202/359 2407 yards 21 TD 11 INT
2011 (13-1) - 165/267 2043 yards 20 TD 5 INT
2012 (10-3) - 207/352 2609 yards 12 TD 7 INT
2013 (10-3) - 192/296 3082 yards 22 TD 8 INT

2008, we were a bad team. No Flynn. No Perrilloux, No Hester, No Dorsey. It was ugly. Think Pick Six Lee and the Troy comeback.
2009, was efficient from a passing standpoint, but probably the worst OL I've ever seen. Our RBs combined for fewer than 1400 yards on the season.
2010, ugly, ugly passing game. Thank goodness for Ridley and Mathieu.
2014, we were a bad team. No Mett. No OBJ. No Landry. No Hill. No Freak. No Ego.

What we've seen out of the passing game thus far is discouraging. But our defense is playing 'good enough' for now, and we have No. 7 to carry the team if we need him to.

But that's not what this is about at all. It's recognizing that you can't win a national championship without a competent passing game. And this staff just can't do it.

If LSU wins a title this year without improving the passing game, Fournette will probably be the greatest college player of all time.

We're not asking for something impossible here. We're asking grown professional who make hundreds of thousands to millions a year to develop a passing game. It's really not that difficult.

I'm guessing he's a big fan of LSU, wants them to succeed, and trying to find areas to get better. Not sure how that's hard to understand.
I'm a big fan of LSU and want them to succeed and see areas that could be better as well. I realize that many other teams have their own problems so I don't let LSU's problems drive me to having a diminishing fandom and becoming numb to the whole thing. I think that's a little much. Like I said, I'm just trying to enjoy college football and Saturdays and, with me being an LSU fan, I've enjoyed it a lot more than most fans the last decade.

2 issue

1. these are saban's recruits and jimbo's QBs
2. 2008 changed everything, and that's where we began to see miles develop into the pass killer we see today

For LSU to win a title this year, with these coaches and with this passing game, he will HAVE TO BE.

I know it's not what the thread was about. What I did was just pick out a part of one of SFP's comments that I thought was pretty far out there (the part about Les Miles causing him to be less of a fan and becoming numb to the whole thing) and commented on that. That's my role in this thread.

You forgot to share your thoughts about the next three year window...

2013 (10-3) - 192/296 3082 yards 22 TD 8 INT

ETA:
2006-07: 143.03 QB Rat. 622/1012 7979 yards 64 TD 28 INT

yeah

and when fans are like "what do you expect? this is les miles football" or whatever i'm like, "yeah it's les (fricking) miles football"

my real question is if this is what les wants

i don't mean the drops or anything. i mean does he think we will win a title with this limited passing game, not throwing over the middle, and throwing 12-15 times/game? is he honestly happy with that sort of output?

i believe he is

2011 was not a good passing year. i mean if anyone wants the argument against a limited, efficient passing game mixed in with a dominant defense, running game, special teams, and LOTS of big game-changing plays (by D/ST), it's 2011. 1-9-12 happened

2012 was a good passing year for about half the year

2013 was really great and the outlier post-2008

Yes, yes he is. Bo Schembechler taught him to run the ball, play field position with your punter, and play defense. Les doesn't realize that Schembechler never won a national title.

So your argument is that from 2011-13, we had a year and a half of good QB play, but that from 2006-07, we had three years of good QB play, despite the fact that we were obviously more effective in the more recent time frame?

Makes sense.

"I think our football team requires excellence at the quarterback spot,” LSU head coach Les Miles told LSUSports.net’s Emily Dixon after the loss. "I think we were 7-for-14 passing. That’s 50-percent. That’s not good enough. “

quote:

“What we will do is go into spring and throw it wide open yet again,” Miles said. "We will let both guys compete, and I think competition will make the difference. The quarterback that comes out of spring will either be one of the two guys. Whoever it is will be much improved.

"It’s a guy who we will expect to throw the football for 250 (yards) and be able to be 20-for-31 and be a very capable and very competent passer.”

eh JR wasn't that great in 05 but was amazing in 06. flynn was good, not great in 07 (turnover machine)

and i was mad as frick back in those days that we didn't take advantage of the passing game

little did i know a decade later we wouldn't be passing for 100/game

mis-using JR in 2006 cost us a title that year. that's probably the most stacked all around LSU team of the past 25 years

Five turnovers against Florida cost us a title that year.

You prefer to believe that he thinks 7-14 is good enough and that he would rather pass for 100 yards than 250?

Makes sense.

that came after the Auburn loss when they wouldn't let JR pass and less thought tosses to JV and Hester would win it

and yes, Bowe and our center gave away that game against UF, but we win if we play UF in the SECCG

then we face OSU in the title, and we win

that 2006 team was soooo stacked. we had the best QB in CFB, a top-flight WR, a TE, a gamebreaker RB in keiland, and an all around beast D

We his history has proven that he is more than satisfied with 7-14 for 100 yards.

He may say he isn't, yet that is consistently what we see.
