the main reason is probably because your seats are on the other side of the wall if thats where you started, The endzone side of the wall for the most part is general seating for students and the sideline side of the wall is reserved group seating. So quit trying to sit where you aren't supposed to

Gates 10-11 are actually East Side tickets and you have to use tickets at the gates on the ticket for obvious reasons.
You should have no problem hooking up with your friends once inside.

well thats completely different then. I think its pretty easy to get from the north end zone to the east side because they aren't worried about the students as much on that side

There USED to be a way to walk back up the steps that are in the NE field portal and get into the NEZ but they have positioned a member of the Wall SS at the top of the stairs at the behest of the group that sits in the "box" at the top of the portal to cut the traffic.
unless you are escorting a dignitary or your arm is held on merely by the tendons, you won't get up there.
And trust me, i have a perfect vantage point to monitor all Wall Nazi activity along the East Sideline/NEZ wall and the portal. Like I said - north 211.
BUT if, and this is a BIG IF, i'm wrong, i welcome your input because since they've shut down that staircase to traffic, my kid can't go see the cheerleaders anymore...please, educate me.
