I think Ive read in here several times that this year LSU will have a smallish D line.

How in the hell is that possible? I thought CLM strong suit was recruiting.....How could he let that happen.

It doesnt take much to realize that MOST (not all) championship teams dont have Small D line.

Look at the midget's D line when he was @LSU and now at that other place.

Whats the deal experts?

Derp derp derp. Look at the roster, they aren't really small. DEs are fast and smaller, but our DTs aren't.

lsu does not have a small def line. they average around 300 lbs a man which is not small.

DE avg = 254 = smallish

DT avg= 288 with two 300 lbers.

Ends have to be lightning quick or we are toast!

Chief himself said on more than one occasion that LSU has more than enough size in the middle.

That's good enough for me.

I was also shocked how nice the UGA and Bama fans were when I went to both of their schools last fall for LSU games. No problems with anyone.

who runs a 3-4 defense now. and if you didn't know, that calls for a nose tackle and basically defensive tackles playing end to stop the run.

actually a breath of fresh air to have speed rushers around the end for the first time in a long time.

I would like to have at least one really solid defensive tackle/nose guard type who can play the run really well. Someone who could also push the pocket in the middle and disrupt some in the passing game. We had this with Dorsey, Wroten, Lavalais. I think Nevis can be this guy. Nevis is a little undersized, but he still can get a little bigger in the future. We have guys with potential and size, but they need to step up. Once you get one really solid guy in the middle it is amazing how it makes the other players better. Once players start commanding double teams it will free up other players in the middle.

Ding Ding Ding...You need someone with size on the Dline to draw double team, and then this allows the quick and flexible types to apply pressure and to move quickly to the ball/runner.

Dorsey was the best at this because he had super flexible hips and good size, drawing lots of double teams. Lavalais, Kyle Williams and Wroten pretty damn good also.

Nevis needs to step up to this level, or maybe it can be Brockers, although Brockers is so tall, he may not be able to get the leverage and angle of more traditional DT's. Davenport has the perfect size at 6' 4" and 310 #'s to provide this role.

Chad Lavalais and Kyle Williams weren't that big in '03 but they sure played "big".

I was worried about that too until I saw how low he was able to get in the Big Cat drill.

They had big DE's complimenting them. Nevis is barely 300 lbs and may be less than that by the end of fall camp. Guys like Wroten, Dorsey, & Booger were just natural sized beast. Also, guys like Charles Alexander and Al Woods were other naturally large athletes.

Like I said before I like the speed of our D and our depth... However, our run D will be challenged by power running games. Nothing makes me sicker than seeing a team run it up the gut on LSU. I think we will lose 3-4 games this year. I think 3 will be the result of LSU not being able to hustle for 4 quarters against much larger teams.

Brick Haley has these kids fired up so anything can happen but realistically it is not our prototypical defense.
