4 runs in 6 innings isn’t too bad considering your team has no offense
Not great tho.

Yes, we noted that versus the Astros. It’s all part of growing up.

He is better when he is pitching to contact. He does that and he will have a long career and a very successful one at that.

It's a fine line to walk. Pitching to swing and miss eliminates chance that pitching to contact does not. But pitching to swing and miss also elevates pitch counts and shortens starts.

It doesn’t mean he dstops going right after the guys he can. But others the nibbling will elevate the pitch count. As most know, pitchers like Ryan became more successful when he learned to pitch rather than overpower hitters. Ryan also wasn’t afraid of pitch count. As he stated, he was his closer.

No he was not, but those days are over and never coming back. Ryan threw 235 pitches once. If they let a pitcher, any pitcher much less one the status of Skeenes, throw over 120 these days there would be firing squads for the organization that allowed it.

No he was not,
For the record, I love watching Skenes pitch and am a huge fan. Saw him when he came to Houston recently. I love his patriotism and the kind of man he seems to be.
As a power pitcher, Ryan is the standard. That is indisputable.
I can assure you he threw harder than Skenes then - much harder for much longer outings.
Enjoy what a boss thinks…
"Quality start? In those days, if I had pitched only six innings and gave up three runs, I had a bad outing and I was hacked off,” Ryan told the Times. “And I can tell you what: My manager and general manager weren't happy, either.
“In those days," Ryan added, "I was my own closer."
After that 235 pitch gem, he pitched 3 days later and shut out the Yankees for 6 1/3.
