You cannot use statistics to predict or expect anything in the future. That's retarded. Football seasons are not equivalent to flipping a coin or playing blackjack. Stupid.
I do think that people have unrealistic expectations about what the program should be doing. What I don't understand is, there's more bitching right now that we got a hard-fought loss, than there was when we were handed a win on a silver platter against Tennessee. The people who are saying "we're back to mediocrity" after the Auburn game seem to be the same folks who were saying "quit bitching, we're undefeated" after the Tennessee and Florida games. I just don't get it.

That's the fricking truth. I wish I wouldn't have read the first couple of paragraphs of this dullard's post.

it is still possible for LSU to play for another BCS title this season.
Possibility versus probability!
It is possible that Angelina Jolie could call me tonight and want to hook up. It is not very probable.

Let me help you out.
Way simpler math.
Florida is 7-3 in the SECCG.
Bama is 3-4 in the SECCG.
Tennessee is 2-3 in the SECG.
LSU is 3-1 in the SECG.
Georgia is 2-1 in the SECG.
Auburn is 1-2 in the SECG.
Arky is 0-3 in the SECG.
Miss State is 0-1 in the SECG.
UK, SC, Vandy & Ole Miss have not been to SECG.
Florida and Bama are the elite teams in the SEC. After some lean years, they reestablished their dominance the last four years. Bama has been an elite team for as long as anyone can remember (like the Yankees). Florida became an elite team under Spurrier and despite setbacks under Zook, Meyer reestablished them as an elite team. It's no accident that Florida and Bama met in 2008 and 2009 for the SECCG because they are the SEC's elite teams -- they also played each other in 4 of the first 5 SECCGs.
LSU, Georgia and Auburn are highly competitive, but NOT elite. Never have been. Could one day become elite but thus far it hasn't happened. LSU has two crystal footballs despite not being elite, but don't think the 2004 Auburn team couldn't have won a crystal football (they were unlucky and went undefeated during a year with two other unbeatens) or that this year's Auburn team won't be playing for a crystal football. Tennessee belongs in this group as well, but they've fallen since the departure of Fulmer and have yet to regain their footing. Arkansas may take their place.
The problem many LSU fans have is that they think we should be an elite SEC team but can't accept that even under Nicky Saban we never have been an elite team. We've been good, even great, but never elite. I don't know that we ever will be.

Found this interesting. Fulmer was a great coach (BCS Champion) but his fan base didnt appreciate him. Now they have there third head coach in 3 years. Do we want Derek Dooley as our coach so we can celibrate a double overtime win against UAB? Miles is alot of things but one of them is a Winner.

I think most fans would be happy with an offense and a product on the feild that represents the recruiting classes, coaches salary, ticket and parking prices. What we look at on Saturdays is fing painful to watch.

People bitch about Miles, but we could have done a lot worse (as you refer to at Tennessee). Bama also made a lot of questionable coaching hires in the decades after Bear's retirement and passing. Dubose? Shula? Really?
Not that we should keep Miles indefinitely, but we should be seriously worried about just what kind of coach our untested AD will hire. Emmert is gone (he hired Saban) and the Skipper is retired (he hired Miles and Maineri, who both delivered a national title). What kind of coach will Alleva hire? How do we know Alleva can land the right coach?
Personally, I would feel a LOT better about hiring the next coach if either Emmert or Bertman were still around. Right now, it's a total crapshoot as to who we might get.
Speaking of the Skipper, here's a great article on him by Kenny Trahan:

I challenge you--name someone who has meant more and accomplished more within the confines of LSU athletics over a career? From 1984-2001, Bertman presided over a baseball program which became the nation's best. He authored five national championships, led LSU to 11 College World Series appearances, and built a program that went from crowds of less than 300 per game to crowds of over 5,000 per game, frequently leading the nation in attendance.
Bertman was a member of the inaugural class of the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. In a poll released by Baseball America in 1999, Bertman was voted the second-greatest college baseball coach of the 20th century, trailing only Rod Dedeaux of USC. That's the impressive baseball legacy. If he had stopped there, Bertman would have been one of the most significant figures in LSU sports history.
Then came the years as Athletic Director. Named to the position in 2001 as a compromise candidate, Bertman elevated LSU athletics to a level it has never seen. Never. There has never been a fundraiser that even approached the neighborhood of LSU. His influence and ability to charm the bucks out of the tightest skin-flint is legendary.

OK, I mis-spelled parity.
Fixed it now.
But historic data is certainly not bullshite.
It is a reasonable way to make future projections.
A BCS title once every 36 years is a reasonable expectation of LSU, based upon the last 18 years of actual performance.
That 18-year period includes some great years and some not-so-great years, so it should be a fairly decent representative sample as a whole.
No matter how you negatigers twist the facts, you are dead wrong in showing complete and total disrespect to Coach Miles and this 2010 LSU football team.

So if you flip a coin and it comes up heads 10 times in a row, is it more or less likely to come up heads if you flip it an 11th time?

Stats can be misleading. Stats can be especially misleading when pulled out of thin air.
You started with some stats, added some variables, made some assumptions about how those variables would effect the future, then you took your new "stats" and extrapolated out assuming that everything would continue to happen as it would make sense in your assumed world.
Are you serious?
