You're right, they probably died in a plane crash.

Is it really that douchey, should my assumption be correct, to point out that someone who has a large group of "friends" die in a short period of time MIGHT reflect badly on them? Next you'll proffer a wise crack about them being innocent victims who's lives MAY have been snuffed out while serving the homeless soup, WE JUST DON'T KNOW.

Ever heard of the axiom "birds of a feather flock together?"

.........and let's not act like this is coming out of left field. The police raided his home after a tip that there was trafficking going on at his residence.

The point is neither you nor I have even the slightest idea so why assume it was anything illicit.

He didn't win a title, alright, it's a team game and he was still a great QB his last season.

Think about his 2 seasons as the lone starter.

LSU was 11-1 going into the 2005 SECCG with the only loss in OT against UT on that messed up post-Katrina/Rita Monday night game. Then they played 10 straight undefeated weeks with no bye. They got trounced by a healthier UGA team.

2006 had 4 top 10 road games. It was a mess of a schedule and included the infamous "no PI" call at Auburn. That was a damn strong team.

His only time at LSU that wasn't championship caliber was when he platooned as a RS freshman with Marcus Randall in Saban's last year.

He steadily improved over his time at LSU, but I thought being the overall #1 and going to the Raiders were kisses of death for him. Still, I was (and am) rooting for him. What a waste of talent just sitting in Mobile.

You don't know that either. What we do know is that the police believed they had enough probable cause to issue a search warrant and a judge believed there was enough probable cause to sign off on it. You better believe the burden was set fairly high considering the high profile nature of the individual. Not saying he is guilty, but the lack of evidence doesn't automatically make him innocent either. Whatever was going on at that house I don't think JR was directly involved. I do believe, or have suspicion, that the people he surrounded himself with are probably what helped fuel the investigation.

Could there be another explanation as to why so many of his friends (presumably in their early 20's) all died in a short period of time? Sure.

Pardon me if I cant feel sorry for a guy that got paid MILLIONS of dollars to play football.... So I do a shitty job because I dont like my boss??? WTF? But every morning he has to look in the mirror and know that he failed, the money may soften that truth, but it will never make it go away....

I think JR was just using this as anexcuse to get away from Oakland and his problems. Anyone who was remotely connected to him that died, meant he had to go home.

That's not the way it works in the real world. I've missed many a funeral, due to work obligations.

If you think Mauck or Flynn were as good as JR then you should be ignored when talking football. Hell Jordan Jefferson had a higher qb rating in 09 than Flynn in 07.

Thought this was interesting:

Flynn
Kentucky 1 TD, 1 INT
Arkansas 3 TD's

Mauck
UGA 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 Fumble
UF 0 TD, 2 INT
Ole Miss 2 TD, 3 INT (1 pick 6)
OU 0 TD, 2 INT, 1 Fumble

I'm not saying that this shows Flynn is better, but I think actually Mauck's bad games were worse than Flynn's. Flynn led the offense to 28 or more points in 13 out of 13 starts. Mauck got less than 28 against VT, Miami Ohio, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and OU (7 out of his 20 starts).

Who both didn't do shite until the second half of the season in 2006 after the team already had two losses. After those two came on, LSU steam rolled teams.

Furthermore, if JR comes back in his senior season does anyone think there was even a remote chance that LSU would lose to Kentucky and Arkansas?

Yes

LSU lost those games due to lack of defense. The games JR lost LSU scored 3 and 7 points. Lack of offense would not have helped at all vs. Hillis and McFadden.

Not really. The offense was pedestrian in those games and let both those teams hang around until the second half. JR crushed teams with mediocre defenses. Of the teams that LSU lost to in 2005-2006, two rank in the 10 ten of total defense and two rank in the top 20 of total defense. Arkansas and Kentucky were 46 and 67 in total defense in 2007. LSU rolls to an undefeated season with JR.

"LSU rolls to an undefeated season with JR."

Of course, this is possible, and there is no way of knowing either way. But we do know is that JR-led teams struggled relatively often to score points. Bama in 2005 (10 in regulation); Arky in 2005 (I believe it was 19 and we may have had a safety); Ga. in 2005 (admittedly a tired team but we did very little on - 14 points?); Ole Miss game (20 in reg, I think); UF 2006 (14 points); Auburn in 2006 (3 points). No Matt Flynn team ever scored fewer than 27 points in regulation time! Sure, it's possible that JR would have led LSU to an undefeated season in 2007, but it also possible that the offense bogs down with JR at the helm as it often did in the past. One could also argue that Flynn's 2007 squad would have been undefeated if they had the sort of defensive play, especially late in the year, that we routinely got in 2006. Sort of pointless, really ...

Wasn't just his friends. When I was about 6yo I went to a dozen funerals in a year. Guess what happens when people get old.
