A statue for Shaq ? Seriously ??? Why ?
Putting a ball through a hoop doesn't qualify as a life enhancing skill set. Let him earn his PH.D. first.

Just because someone excels in sports does not mean they have NOT contributed meaningfully to society. I have a JD and an MD, and I know a fair number of folks who have doctorates who are pretty useless. A doctorate doesn't make you special, either. Its what you do with what you have been given, and he has done well and has been generous to many in the process.

I thought Bob Petit was a street? How are they making a statue of a street?

Shaq has been a great ambassador for our university and would surely be deserving of a statue. But I'd rather the statues be limited to the Bengal tigers we currently have.
Regarding Bob Pettit, I was fortunate enough to meet him on one occasion. His class and humility struck me, especially for a player with such an acclomplished career.

Additionally, I’ve been told that the 78-year-old Petit, who lives in Baton Rouge and still attends LSU sporting events, has told LSU he does not want a statue of him to go up until he passes away.
I have always been a Shaq fan but the way he and Bob Petit are showing so much humility it's hard not to like them even more. Shaq statue is pretty awesome although I'm not a fan of toonces and the stuff at the bottom. There is a Shaq suite at the Lod Cook, anyone been?

so they already completed the statue and now want to try and convince him to allow them to display it? why can't they respect his wishes?

I know a fair amount of folks with those degrees that are pretty worthless as well.

I thought that was what I just said. I could even be doubly worthless, right?
