So what's the rule at the play at 1st. Orvis can lay a shoulder into the 1st base runner on the pick off attempt and then try to impede him taking 2nd after the ball got by? I figured that'd be interference.

Reading your PBP, the runner still got to third base. If the umpire ruled interference, he would let the play finish, and then the runner would be allowed to move up to the base the umpire deemed he would have reached. So if he had to stop at second because of the intereference, the umpire would move him to third base. Since the runner reached third base, no extra "foul" is added.

Gotcha. Seemed on the pickoff that Orvis cared more about putting a shoulder into the runner than the ball.
