The coach said we were bringing in the Saints offense. That quote is on record.

Well... Kinda. But not exactly.

Here's Os quote:
quote:

Joe Brady has been a big time help for us. We’re bringing in the Saints passing game. We have the RPOs from Penn State.

Those quotes are almost mirror images of each other.

Not trying to start a big fight but the quote from O is almost verbatim to the quote Goldrush posted. He just didn't mention the RPO that you seem to think will make an other worldly difference, and that's completely fine.

Not really. Brees rarely ran an RPO - Just Hill. Penn State ran a boatload of RPOs when Moohead was there (Moohead - typo, but I liked it)

Brees did run RPOs at Purdue, tho.

We have the RPOs from Penn State.

Ok, fine. RPO's for everyone.

Yup. Why do you keep leaving out the Penn State RPO part?

They're bringing in the Saints Spread passing game, and Penn State's RPO game.

I've already mentioned it twice.

Big difference. Probably close to half the offense.

I don't know about that.

Depends on how they run it. Most programs that have the RPO down pat rarely run a rushing play without a pass option element. This drives DCs crazy.

You're not going to do much without the OL doing it's job as far as blocking, giving Burrow time, opening holes for the RBs.

While what you're saying sounds great, we had OL issues last season and that has to be corrected before any of this to begins to work.

The Saints are a pro team but to just sign on to it because a pro team does it successfully and expect a collegiate team to have the same result simply because it's the same offense, is a little presumptuous, to me. Not saying I want it to fail by any stretch of the imagination but with the only thing for me to base it on are how successful a pro team was with it, doesn't really convince me how successful it will be at LSU. No question, I would take it but between Brady being a God send and being downright awful, there's a big area where he can be pretty successful, very successful, not real successful. This is why I have to see how it translates when we play games instead of just being 100% on board with nothing to base it on other than how a professional football team was with it with players who are payed out the wazoo to get those results. I understand that RPOs have been around in college football but we haven't done it here, or very little of it at least.

Also, one thing that seems to get overlooked in these conversations regarding Brady is that he isn't the OC. He's the passing OC yet a lot of people phrase things like he is the OC.

Saint's is a MUCH easier pass offense. A quick search brings up one of Bree's passing charts - 65% of his completions in that game are UNDER 5 yards. 80% are under 10 yards.

Short quick passes are the bomb. Much easier for QB, Receivers, and O-Line.

Debatable but in any event, you also have pro OL giving Brees time to throw. If our OL isn't better than last season, very little of all this stuff comes to fruition. Simply because Burrow is hurried, has to throw balls away, no holes for the RBs, etc.

A QB doesn't need 3 or 4 seconds to throw 5 yards. Tom Brady and Brees have been proving season after season that 2.5 seconds is more than enough time for a short pass - and 1.5 is usually plenty.

Those 4 and 5 second dinosaur routes Sullivan had last year were painful to watch.

[Oh guess what!!! Sark's bringing them back to Bama in '19 !!!]

It's so easy that most of the league cannot replicate it.

Both of these are pro QBs both of whom have won Superbowls. Come on, man.

So Burrow will just throw pass after pass after pass, under 3 seconds because he's that good? I'm a huge Burrow fan but come on.

We aren't a pro team, that's what I'm getting at. We're a collegiate team with kids on it. Not guys that have been in the pros for at 10 years.

He does if he wants it to be a completion. If he's hurried or sacked or whatever, isn't that on the OL then? There goes your 3600 yards in passing and 70% completion rate.

The league is filled with OCs who are happily married to their 20 year-old playbooks.
