We are just a team that thrives in recruiting because of location and no other Power 5 in-state competition. We grab one or two guys a year from the State of Florida and Texas because of the recruiting pipeline. We manage 8-10 wins off of talent and a low risk football scheme. We will always lose 2 or 3 games a year from being out-coached by teams with equal talent. Every other season you can add one of the "WTF" games that we had no business losing at all. Repeat the cycle. That's just who we've become.

So...for the most part, we're just like every other good program out there, except for maybe 2 or (maybe) 3 that are truly elite like Alabama.

For the clueless people on this board like yourself. What you just summarized still puts us well above our historical mean. We are not the football powerhouse that our fans think. Good program. Sure. Top-5 all time? No way. We have been operating above our mean for 15 years now. You better enjoy it champ. Regression to the mean is inevitable.

Great attitude. Strive to be mediocre much? You should go root for La Tech.

I just wish we had the coaching to match the talent. We have elite talent with mediocre coaching.

The mentality of the two programs is as different as their coaches. Bama wants to dominate and will do anything (legal or otherwise) to win. Their administration supports this and it shows on the field of play. The LSU administration and Miles seem happy just to be in position to compete. If they win, great, but if they don't, it's not a life or death situation like it is in Tuscaloosa. Life for the Saban family was probably very uncomfortable last season when Ohio State beat Bama in the playoff semifinal game. I don't think that's the case for Miles. He doesn't feel that kind of pressure to win, even after 4 years of futility against Bama and the debacle of 1/9/12 still on the minds of many.

Yea except for the fact that we have the most players in the NFL. You think that would equate to something more huh?

Couldn't have said it more succinctly myself.

Blah, blah. Which program has had a huge edge in DL, OL, and LB talent the past 4 years? Those NFL numbers are mostly useless playing against elite teams.

What makes a team "elite"? Is it not talent?
