Agreed. It's not the same. Some of us were having a side discussion on whether the portal is a net gain. In the short term it was. We don't win a baseball natty in '23 without it. In the long term, it's TBD.

He didn't. He was a grad transfer. The portal didn't exist until Oct. 2018 I think and Burrow was already playing for LSU.

You are arguing semantics. Burrow transfered to LSU from OSU.... Period.
He was a grad transfer. The portal wasn't what it is today. But the fact remains that he transferred to LSU and is one of the many prime examples of LSU winning bc of transfer players.

Then name the schools who have a better recruiting footprint than we do. There are a handful in that conversation (UGA. UF, Texas, Aggy. maybe tOSU). So how does the portal leverage an advantage over those schools? It doesn't. They can play portal games as well as us.
The roster holes Kelly inherited weren't because our recruiting base dried up but rather because of Ed's shenanigans.
That CBK used the portal to patch the roster holes, props to him. But in the long haul, I'm suggesting the portal will be a net loss to our football Fortunes.

In quantity, probably so. But I don't expect it to in quality. But again, it's going to differ from year to year based on the uncontrollables. BK, or JJ, doesn't want to HAVE to depend on the portal. But there will be dudes in it yearly that you have to try to get regardless of anything else around you. It would be a mistake not to. I'm talking the Skenes, Whites, Burrows. Every coach will want to build through recruiting, or at least every successful coach will.
