Every single time Crowton calls a play that is a run for the qb, Miles should substitute RS in for JJ, period. Even knowing its coming, RS would still average over 6 yds per carry.

13 carries for 13 yds!!! do you need to know more. RS could get 1 yd per with 15 guys playing defense.

okay guy, who's your "go-to" player on the offense?

RS is clearly our "go to guy".
But Ridley/rbs need 15-20 rushes and we need to throw the ball 20 times a game.

The fact of going three and out like we often do makes it where the number of plays just arent there to be had.

That would be ideal, but does LSU play ideal football? Hell to the no!

1) It would require 70+ snaps on offense
2) Jefferson CANNOT RUN IT 13 TIMES
3) QBs have to be able to check down for these recievers to get touches at that rate
4) Running game has to be working for there to be 45 runs and 25 pass attempts which is an ideal ratio IMO

I won't disagree with that, but Shep fits the role of a ATH player that can play multiple positions and play them well. To me, that gives him the nod to touch the ball more than anyone on offense. Shep has the ability to spread out the defences to open up for our true RBs.

the problem with Shep is his hands aren't quite there yet, and i know some of the balls are uncatchable, but sometimes he just drops it. I wish we could run it with him for but i don't think les wants to pound it with him, and i woudln't either because RIdley is a very suitable power back

Some more:

Shep is leading the team in scoring with 3 touchdowns on 16 touches. Which means he scores a touchdown every 5.33 touches. Sounds pretty good to me. I would give him the damn ball.

By comparison Ridley has 38 touches and 1 touchdown.

Would you give the ball to the guy that scores every 5.33 touches or the guy that scores every 38 touches?

All valid points. That's why Shep should be touching the ball as a WR, RB, and QB.

He is only getting 8 per game (12 Rush, 4 Rec, 16 total)which will put him at 96 touches for the season if you average it out.

I think somewhere reasonable that will be truly utilizing his talent would be more like 12-15 touches per game.

They actually went to him about 13 times last week. He had a few drops.

sammytiger,

I disagree. I think his hands weren't there last season. This season, he's all there, and he's getting better and better. Shep is the future of LSU's offense.

I don't think this is correct. JJ may have ran the ball 13 times....but i don't think they were called running plays.

I saw the pass that landed just above his shoe laces and behind him that he dropped. i also saw the one that Shaquille Oneal couldn't have reached. Creativity comes to mind when thinking of how to utilize Shep. Our coaches want to use him in situational roles which will only naturally occur during the flow of a game at about 8-10 times per game. I think we should run the offense through Shep to create more opportunities for him to touch the ball.

and he shouldn't. We have too many playmakers to give a third of the touches to one player.

this makes more sense than anything said so far.

the key to any good offense is to keep the defense guessing as to who gets the rock and where the point of attack will be.
shep is just one weapon at Crowton's disposal and when the oline and JJ/JL start to execute efficiently our offense will improve.

yea..."drop" was the wrong word. Sorry. I just meant that they tried to go to him about 13 times.

Percy Harvin averaged 8 touches per game during his last season (2008) at Florida.

With all the weapons on offense, looks like RS is getting his fair share.

Shepard is definitely the big play threat, but Ridley is your workhorse.

The difference is that Harvin was also used as a decoy to open up the rest of the offense. The coaches haven't figured out how to use Shepard as a decoy yet. In fact, they make it quite obvious when Shepard will run with the ball, like when he lines up at WR, goes in motion and then lines up in the RB position.

10-11 touches a game is what Shep should get
