Interesting that he says he was asked to change positions. The story had always been that he asked to move to WR

You need to do some research on what shite talking really is.

Maybe shite-talking wasn’t the correct phrase. Would “I wish he would stop running his mouth” have worked better for you? The guy talks more than any non-factor player I’ve ever seen in the history of LSU sports.

I love his talent as much as anyone, but shite do something on the field before you open your mouth constantly. I’d rather him maybe make a consistent impact on the field before he starts opening his mouth about being better than someone like Justin Blackmon. I have no problem with someone making personal goal, but until you’ve accomplished a single thing on the field, you keep them to yourself or you sound stupid.

Yeah im sure everyones goal is to be the best.

I give him a pass, but he needs to step up big time this season our he will be a bust. Regardless of who his qb is, hes got to start catching balls. The best in the ncaa catches the balls thrown to high, catches the balls at his feet, catches the balls thrown behind him. The best in the ncaa can also take a hit and keep going. He has a long way to go. I hope hes been busting his arse. If he has then i have no doubt he posseses the ability yo be considered one of the best.

I agree with nas. I summer class wit russel after the spring he EE. Nice guy, would see him out and around campus. Always down for chatting. Now 2 years later the guy seems so full of himself when i see him around and just a change in attitude.

If he can have a good year then I think that puts LSU in a good position.

He's certainly going to be a key to our offensive success. Not only do we really need him to step up and be a reliable receiver, because we are so inexperienced there, but his versatility can provide a lot of mismatches. Also, whatever JJ may lack in leadership qualities, Shep can help make up for, but he's got to be a playmaker before he can lead. Hard to get people to rally behind you if you are dropping balls and running routes without much production.

He has the chance this year to step up. It's between him and RR to be our big play makers. SW will carry to load, but we'll need someone over the top to burn em.

That's funny because I have a nephew that hangs out with him and I've asked him before if Shep goes to class. I've always been told how serious he is about school.

I see this word all the time and, unless it’s an upperclassman, it makes me cringe almost as much as the word “potential” does during the NFL Draft. With the limited practice time in college, I can’t stand when teams try to create the jack-of-all-trades player. It almost always results in a guy doing a bunch of things kind of well as opposed to doing one thing extremely well.

My favorite OC in the nation (most know because I won’t ever shut-up about him) is Holgorsen and he had a great take on teaching multiple positions. He said no player has ever learned multiple positions on his team. Not Justin Blackmon. Not Michael Crabtree. Not Wes Welker. No one. You learn and become an expert at your position as opposed to trying know multiple positions, think assembly line. In the NFL, yes it can happen, and it’s almost necessary at times due to cap and roster size restrictions.

Holgorsen has an article about how he thinks what kept Harvin from truly becoming the dominant, Heisman-type player at Florida after his freshmen year (besides injuries) is that they tried to have him do too much. Now he was still a monster stud and no one is calling him a bust, but could he have taken it to another level had he ever been able to specialize at one position? Who knows.

Execution >>>>> Variation all day long in football and especially college football.

He’ll be a rah-rah pregame hype and workout type of leader, but it’s extremely difficult for a receiver to be a leader on a team. Most of the time it’s going to be a Michael Clayton, Hines Ward-type of physical WR. The main leaders on the offense this year will be Blackwell, Lonergan, and Ware.

Being a genius has nothing to do with being a leader, just ask Ray Lewis

Everyone I’ve spoken with says Lonergan is extremely well-respected in the locker room for his work ethic and tenacity. Granted center is a position that always been a position that lends itself to leadership, but LSU hasn’t had a true leader from it in a while. Lonergan will unite this line IMO.
