Trent Johnson is likely to become TCU's 20th basketball coach, several sources said. The sources confirmed a Friday morning report by CBSSports.com that Johnson was the leading candidate.
If Johnson, who just finished his fourth year at LSU, is the man, TCU will most likely have to dramatically increase what it pays its head basketball coach. Johnson makes around $1.3 million at LSU.

TJ Pugh!!! McKinley High FTW!!!!

Seriously I just saw a guy walking down my street and right now I would use him to replace TJ if I could.
I don't dislike TJ as a person but I feel like I have been one of his biggest backers in wanting to give him time. Well time is up. I think he has been given a fair shake an so far has produced NOTHING.
I understand winning isn't just going to be easy and bad luck can happen. But I can't think of anything that he has done that warrants keeping him on. No star recruits. Not getting the most out of his players, not retaining players nothing!
I will take..... hmmmm.. the guy in the third row picking his nose! Come on down!

he'd be awesome! I love the guy. He's about to get canned because he was tired of dealing with the whole Dwight crap and he doesn't care anymore. I think he'd make a great college coach. Don't know what his experience is at the college level though. Seriously though he'd never go to LSU.
Stan the man! Let's make it happen!

Isiah Thomas just got fired at FIU after 3 years. How long until someone mentions him for the LSU job?

A TCU fan just called in to the Sirius/XM College Basketball Show with Jeff Goodman (who wrote the original article) and Bruce Pearl, asking about the TCU/Trent story.
Goodman said his sources last night said TJ was "a" candidate. Today, his sources said he was "the" candidate. He added that Trent was thinking over an offer right now.
Pearl and Goodman both said it would be a solid, not spectacular hire for TCU.

That MF'er better take it and GTFO

What's to think over? Stay here and get fired or take a soft landing at TCU.

if only we could make a slam dunk hire by the beginning of the week for a new coach to try and work some magic on teh recruiting trail. has baylor's check cleared yet?

At this point whether he takes it or not he needs to GTFO. The timing is terrible. Even though this class only have 1 player signed can you really expect any player to sign with him as the coach after this unless they have no better options?

I think the writing's on the wall. He must know he has precarious standing in terms of fan support and administrative support.
This is not a good situation for him right now. I like and respect the guy as a person, but this has run its course. It happens.

Not just that but coaches could be reluctant to leave their recruiting classes. I wish this had happened a month ago.
