Why don't you ask Alabama fans or Maquis Maze about that line of logic.

So in a rematch if LSU is pitted against Bama and say Bama does beat LSU is Bama crowned champ? After all we beat them as an underdog in their house so the series would be 1-1. This is why I'm not really in favor of a rematch because it can open such an argument (but if it ends up being like that so be it). As long as there is a creditable team that is undefeated they are going to the big game.

I can tell you that the world will know if someone gets screwed. All eyes will be watching for that. And if Alabama does get bumped back just for no rematch purposes all hell will break lose. Can they get away with it?? maybe Can they get away with it cleanly?? Heck no the BCS will be hated and seen as complete politics. (Even more than it is now.)

The SEC Championship game has the best teams from the West and East pitted together.
That means that LSU and Alabama can't play in that game.
Does LSU get a pass from that game?
I am confused.
At first I was on the forefront of the rematch talk, and people lol'd at me. Now, I don't think it will happen because I question its fairness and legality given the rules in the system. I also think it's improbable.

Just like all hell broke out with Mich in 06? For the most part no one other than Bama gives a shite.

The East sucks. The East sucks really really bad. If LSU wins out and goes into the SEC championship game they will be the better team by far. I am not saying it is a guarantee, but if we can beat, Oregon, Alabama, and Arkansas the East is nothing.

This is the exact reason the rematch could happen. If OK state and Stanford lose LSU will play either Bama or Oregon if they win out. Don't think that a rematch is out of the question because it could very likely happen.
The problem being discussed here is will the BCS screw one of these teams out of a rematch for purposes of money or boredom.

If Alabama or Oregon is rightfully the 2nd best team, and the voters "manipulate" the system for any reason to avoid a "rematch", then it is unfair to LSU and all of college football because the rules have been changed after the games have started.
you're wrongfully assuming that the integrity of why voters vote whom where on any given week is a virtuous process...polls already have all sorts of bias in them. Since the polls are 2 out of 3 parts of the formula, then however it turns out is what it is.
In addition, the goal of the BCS is to determine a champion on the field, not to figure out who the best 2 teams are, then let them play. LSU has already beaten Alabama on the field, which, IMO, eliminates Alabama from consideration should LSU win out.

If LSU and The University of the Damned are set up as #1/#2 going into the SEC Championship week, will LSU get penalized for losing that game, possibly sliding to #3 while The University of the Damned stays in the top 2?
Seems kinda backwards in that situation. The University of the Damned doesn't have to play the championship game because LSU beat them at home. LSU loses championship game and slides to #3. The University of the Damned gets to go to the big show because they didn't have to play that extra game.
No worries, though. The pollsters will make sure The University of the Damned watches the game from the hell that is their state.
How the heck do you put them in over a 1 loss Bama when they got beat by unranked Texas Tech at home?"
Because they haven't had their shot at LSU?
Bama did at home...so why reward them another chance to win the National Championship?
Makes no sense to me....

Michigan was number 2 and Ohio State was number 1. They played in the last week of the regular season like usual. Because it was the last week in the schedule they did not have time to recover. How would they deserve to go the national championship if they lost to the number 1 team in the last week?? Bama and Oregon have weeks to win out, and Ok State and Stanford have games to lose. These situations could not be more different. People will go nuts because they will have a reason too. No one at Michigan had grounds to argue they deserved in to a game that took place already.

It's going to come down to media story-lines. Just after the game Saturday, everyone was calling for a rematch - but the next day, they realized there were some issues with this. It's going to be whorish .
IMO
If Oregon beats Stanford AND they win their crap conf. championship - I think they'll get the nod. I think Oklahoma may be screwed even if they beat OK State (and I think they will - or at least it's a toss up) b/c of the lack of conf. championship. Think about how many times everyone has said to the pac fudge: "You have to play a conf. championship".....Well...now they do.

So you're saying the way Bama gets to play LSU again is if one of the top teams loses their conference's championship/bowl game and Bama gets bumped up to #2.
But that rematch is a poor choice for the BCS because we already saw it this season on a big enough stage?

Alabama doesn't deserve to be #2 right now, but they may be the 2nd best team. If they can be the 2nd best team in the country AND work themselves back in the #2 BCS spot then what argument can you make for them not deserving it?
Posted on 11/8/11 at 4:00 pm to ReauxlTide222
What if Oregon wins their conference championship (assuming Stanford and OK St. lose)?

Immediately after the game the rankings were:
OSU, USC, MI
the following week they were the same. After the conference CGs USC lost and it was
OSU, FL, Mich.
Bama is now third and they don't really play much of a schedule. Beating up inferior teams does not help...ask Boise. They will be jumped like Mich and vast majority will not give a shite.

Damn voters manipulate the system every week. Some know what they're doing, some don't. In my opinion the BCS system is greatly flawed because of this.
