That jefferson as a game manager got me. Jefferson is not and will not ever be a game manager. Mett is better right now than either of the other two. This D-1 crap is getting tiresome. You guys act like Mett is some guy straight out of high school. You know this isnt the case.

Ironic you would use those figures, those aren't far off from his JuCo season last year. I know, it's Juco but let me ask this question....
Where was his line playing ? How about the WRs ?
Does the ball fly differently in Juco ? Is the field a different size ? the ball ? Are the rules different ? Are there only 10 defensive players in Juco ? Do Juco coaches use football plays or defensive schemes that are different than D1 ?
Kurt Warner was a CFL QB before blistering the NFL with a terrible Rams team. Jerry Rice seemed to do OK after leaving Ms Valley State. Most recently, Cam looked like he made the adjustment to D1 pretty well...wouldn't you say ?
So, forgive me if I don't buy the JuCo thing. Is Mett the 'savior', who knows ? Is he automatically disqualified from the same for coming from a year in Juco - I think not.

I remember when the rant was scared of Peterson returning punts.

Arena League actually, then NFL Europe.

This is pretty simple, IMO.
There are freshmen who have come in to D1 every year who outperform JJ and all of his "experience".
With the talent we have around him, Im very confident in saying there's absolutely no way Mett can be any worse than JJ was last season, and continued to look in the spring game.

you guys are delusional if you think clm will start met for a team that is ranked no. 1 in preseason polls. we are trying to win a NC! when is the last time that a team won a nc with a qb that had never taken a snap in major college football. starting mett is way too risk.
mett will ONLY start if jj is injured or LSU has the no. 2 in the loss column

When was the last time a team won the NC with the worst ranked passing game in the conference, and one of the worst ranked QBs in all of D1?
First, no NC if JJ plays like he did last year, and second, do you really think he's going to improve dramatically and all of a sudden be consistent?
Exremely unlikely.
The higher risk would be continuing to play JJ if he struggles like last year.

That's great that you point all this out. However, this is more a product of how poorly JJ performed most of the year last year. I don't think it's that people think Mett is the next great college QB but more like an above average QB. We're not asking for much, just above avg and we're set.
Don't was time pretending people think he will walk on water. No one thinks that but they want something better than what we had last year.

Sadly, the schedule probably won't let Metr start game one. JJ almost has to start against Oregon. You know what you have with JJ and can coach it accordingly to beat Oregon.
Mett is an unknown.
If the first game was against NW St it would be easier to start Mett in game 1

Very true, Mett will have to be off the hook in the summer to get a start v OR.

this year
(ok so cam had a couple of plays at florida, but nothing substantial)
and the year before, McElroy was a first year starter.
and Matt Flynn was a first year starter.
and Tee Martin was a first year starter.
ect ect

By September, if he is an unknown to the coaching staff we need a new coaching staff.

he won't dramatically improve, but the play calling could be a whole lot better. With a more experienced o-line, and if Ware performs like he did in the Cotton, the offense will be much improved over last year.

Hollins,
I'm on bberry so can't look it up but Matt Flynn was a first year starter in 07 when we won the title. He played a little bit in the Cap1 game v Iowa (think a series or 2) and he played (poorly) in the SEC title game v. Georgia. At any rate, there was nothing to suggest he was not a serious concern going into 2007 and he played 3x better than JJ. Or, how about Tee Martin? And Josh Heupel for OU in 2000. 2003 was Leinhart's first year as a starter and, despite the LSU argument, USC won "a" title.
It's one thing to say that between a newcomer phenom and a steady, solid senior you go with the safe play. But JJ is the worst LSU QB in at least 25 years. Marcus Randall laughs at him. So this "risk" many are worried about isn't all that risky at all.

unknown in the sense of how he'll execute in a variety of situations on a big stage...not in the sense of how his arm looks in practice.
