All I'm hearing up here is how the Tiger nation would love to have BP instead of Miles as HC. But, wasn't Petrino one of the first interviews when we hired Miles ?
I seem to recall hearing about a conflict in attitude or personality with Skip and others doing the interviews and the chase was dropped. Of course, that was when BP was riding high and still at Louisville.
After Atlanta, maybe he came back to earth a little and the circumstances were perfect for the Arkansas gig. Not saying he isn't a better coach than LM, but it seemed at the time that the LSU people backed off pretty quickly.
Anyone have the scoop on that ?

Skip dropped the ball with Petrino.

That is the fact, Jack. You can line up all the baseball trophies you want, but when it came to big boy ball, you dropped it.

Bobby Petrino sucks. Who gives a shite about Big East Louisville results? He would've left LSU by now anyway...

You can't compare his situation when coaching Louisville to LSU around 2006.

People label him a bolter because of what he did to the Falcons.

It was way worse than what Saban did to the Dolphins...or LSU...or MSU. Plus like I said, Saban has infinitely more coaching ability than Petrino. This is the SEC, and defense is a MUST. Petrino can't spell it.

I still say he took the Arky job just to get out of the NFL and no other. I believe if a bigger job comes along, in the College game, he will leave there just as fast.

I personnaly think he would be a perfect fit here at LSU with the talent that is here. Now will they offer him the job if things go sour this year that remains to be seen, if he keeps Chavis that is.

I think LSU could do a bit better than Petrino if a coaching search was needed.

i would think so too. i looked at his record a little closer, and he is 3-14 so far against teams that actually finish in the top 25. plus, his lone bcs win came against wake forrest (The ACC has only two BCS wins period)

Yes but, he does not have the talent that is here at LSU, he having to do it with talent that is far less than that here. Not to belittle the fact that he has beaten LSU twice.

I would also like to think there was better than that available when that time comes also. But, who is going to leave what they have where they are if they have a great team to come to a school that runs their Coach off after 8-5 or9-4 season and a better winning percentage than any Coach in the schools history?

Oh come on, I wish the Petrino-envy would die on this board.

Arkansas is not a third-world SEC team. This myth that LSU has soooo much more talent doesn't pan out if you look at the record these last couple of years. For instance, as you noticed while we beat them last year (in OT), Arkansas/Nutt/Petrino beat LSU in 07 and 08.

An untalented ARKY team beats uber-talented LSU, or a poorly coached LSU loses to inferior (but better coached) ARKY? Which? It's one of the other.

He was a blown call from being 2-0 against LSU. He has lit up the SEC with far less talent than he would have at LSU. Give him a good DC and he'll win a MNC.

But why does he have "far less talent?"

Coaches are supposed to hire good DCs themselves, not be "given" them. Why hasn't he ever been able to hire a good one? Petrino might be an offensive genius, but he is just about the most unlikable person in college football. And when you are trying to convince the best of the best to come play for you and come work for you, that shite matters. At least Saban is so respected that people can overlook his assholeness. Petrino, not so much.

I will concede that he is likely a better Xs and Os coach than Miles, but I don't he in any way would have been a better fit or had the success that Miles has had at LSU.
