Mitchell's already projected as one of the Top 75 picks from the publications I've seen. This puts him late in the 2nd or early 3rd Rd. The kid has a lot of potential, and the fact that he is only a Junior may raise his draft position a little. 1st Rd is not out of the question, but I agree that I'd have a hard time putting him in the top 10 picks.

Exactly he has tons of potential. Plus towards the end of last year he was hitting the ball pretty good. Watching that UC-Irvine clip earlier, and he was either 3-4 or 3-5 when he got up to the plate in that second game, when NO ONE else in the lineup was hitting the ball that game. Yeah it took him a little bit toget the rust off last season but he can hit. He has the speed, he can make the catches, and he has shown at times he can hit. I've talked to baseball guys (guys who have done camps with big time prospects) who know talent and they say Jared Mitchell is the real deal and should go top 3 rounds.

yes, Les Miles actually told him that he didnt play much because of baseball. he knew that jared would be gone after this year, so why not develop younger talent? also for those saying he wont be drafted in the first ten rounds. jared was drafted in the tenth round out of high school, it would be absurd to think he would be drafted in a later round after playing two years of college ball

I went to high school with JMitch and talk about an athlete.

We played little league together for 7 years and also played in the recreational basketball league.

No doubt he will do well in MLB!

the pro scouts dont look at college stats. The guy is a speedy left-handed hitter that can field his position. He is one of the best pro prospects on this team. I can look at players like Dean and Gibbs and see that Mitchell has a ton more potential than these guys. The pros LOVE athletes. DJ will also be a hell of a pro, this team is very talented. I can't find many flaws on the roster.

This is the dumbest thing I'll read on the Rant today. I know his dad, and believe me, this did not happen. Why would Miles play him ONE PLAY if he didn't want him hurt???? Did he say "go in there, but dog it. I heard you may be a 1st round pick."

Jared did not play because the guys in front of him beat him out. I do think him missing spring practice and playing in the Cape Cod league hurt him.

I hear ya but I feel as though a coach can sense where a man's heart lies, and from the looks of Jared Mitchell's bright career so far his seems to beat for the diamond.

Have you seen the contracts in Major Leagues these days........

I can see why.

Just to let you all know(dont care if you believe me are not) but i played with Jared in High School. Westgate High in New Iberia. Considered the top wide receiver prospect in Louisiana by many recruiting publications ... Played quarterback for Westgate ... A threat to score every time he touches the ball ... Led Westgate to the Class 5A quarterfinals in 2005 ... Named to the Tigerbait.com Louisiana Top 20, the Baton Rouge Advocate Super Dozen, the Mobile Register Super Southeast 120, the New Orleans Times-Picayune Top 16 Blue-Chip list, and the Orlando Sentinel All-Southern Team ... Also named the Class 5A Offensive MVP in 2005 after passing for 1,720 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushing for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns ... Accounted for well over 2,000 total yards as a junior

Will not be a 1st round baseball draft pick. I do wish him the best and I hope he could pull it off.
