How do you write off a class after a year?

You had 7 guys start games & with the new redshirt rule, most of the other ones red shirted

Think of guys like Greedy, White & Foster Moreau who barely played as Freshmen. Greedy even red shirted

Kristian Fulton & Jacob Phillips will be studs next year, they barely saw time as a Freshmen. It took Divinity 3 years to do anything. Patrick Queen & jacoby Stevens, nothing. These are all likely future nfl players

for starters, 20% of it has already left

then you have a couple 1-2 year players (tracy, lewis, moore, traore, etc). in 2 years something around 40% of that class won't be contributing

it wasn't a highly regarded class to start with. a year later it has little room to improve. sure our top guys should pan out but there are no diamonds in the rough, which means our weak ranking was likely too high

There are several factors that contribute to this, including the new transfer rule & the new red shirt rule among other things. The fact that LSU did not have a mass exodus of underclassmen to nfl has them way over the limit. That doesn’t just mean they need to cut down, but positions are over crowded.

If 5 of those guys become all sec caliber players, and another 5 are solid program players, say 2 year starters, that is a good class.

Tracy was worth it, Lewis was a plug & play a 2 yr starter, and Burrow potentially might be a program changer.

Bottom line is there are a handful of crap players even in the best classes. Why does it matter if they leave now as opposed to 2 years from now after not contributing at all?Or staying 5 years and being nothing more than a ST player? What’s the difference?

Burrow is part of the class whether you like it or not Jake. He’s taking up a scholarship against that years cap

Slow flow just likes to dog Coach O. I've lurked on this board for 13 years slow and know your posts well. Coach will succeed and you'll be proven wrong. I know it'll kill your pride but life goes on.

He took a scholarship from that class.

The fact it’s a hard cap now makes it even more distinct

Ha, I just seem like an alter because I know y'all so well. I was lurking on slow when he was struggling in law school still wearing 32s in the waist. I've been lurking on this board before Russell was quarterback. I know you well too Lester earl, believe that

See you referring to the little QB they got?

Yea I’d count him in the class.

No surprise here. He is immensely talented but he would have never seen the field at LSU with Emery and Davis here. He was my dark horse pick in last years class I love his agility and elusiveness. I hope he transfers somewhere he can really compete for the starting job. Be won’t be the last. I’d expect Badara Traore to leave also for his last year if he’s eligible to graduate.

they got like 9 guys to transfer in and a guy who was a former #1 overall player

it's super crazy to consider that their 2019 class, and it's still not comparable to Burrow b/c it's not even spring practice

Burrow came over 2 months after this point last year, comparably

Im logically trying to come up with a way to not include them in a class and its hard when they are accounting for scholarships in that class.

Like this is a real life player man. He's going to help the team win. Somewhere in the chain of events LSU deserves credit for attracting him.

This is a dumb hill to die on. The initial counters used constitute the class. That’s the NCAA’s interpretation so you can talk about your feelings on it until you’re blue in the face and it won’t change. With grad transfers and the NCAA also now granting immediate eligibility waivers for anything under the sun, it’s only going to increase the amount of any given class that’s made up of transfers from DI programs. There can be a debate that this particular class isn’t quite up to LSU’s standards historically but refusing to acknowledge the transfer aspect makes your argument look petty and behind the times.

Not a fan of this new transfer rule at all! Players shouldn't be stuck, but this is getting ridiculous! Any type of adversity and I'm out. Many players became great after sticking it out and battling through things!

That argument does not hold much water when the coaches can leave at the drop of a dime.
