Kendall rogers tweeted the other day about speaking to scouts about Raph Rhymes. He is around a 6-7th round draft pick right now.

Tony Gwynn and Rod Carew were great athletes.
If Rhymes had more speed or was able to hit for a little more power, he could fit in easier.
for a guy that just hits, doesn't play any position really well, it's hard to find a spot for him.
If he can hit .360 like Wade Boggs and play above average defense, he'll find a spot rather quickly. But i wouldnt bank on it.

Gwynn & Carew both stole a shite ton of bases. & I'm not ready to call Raph the next Wade Boggs just yet

Yeah but among others you didn't 'bank' on him hitting .485 2/3 of the way through the season.
If he can hit at that level he'll get his shot.
Boggs didn't hit .360 every year but he was a pure hitter without great speed. He put the bat on the ball all the time and didn't strike out much at all. Sound familiar?

he was a .350-.360 hitter in his prime, from the left side, who played gold glove defense at 3rd base and got on base over %40 of his at bats.
do I think Rhymes will end up like that? No, i dont. So no it doesn't sound familiar. Get a grip.

I'm strictly comparing them at the plate, not over all game. Beckham hit a tone of balls out of the park, yes. But, he also had the advantage of the composite bats, which make a huge difference in power.
holy frick
you are actually serious

These are some of the most absurd comparisons I've ever seen on here.

Have you seen some of the scrubs that play left and right field in the majors.
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to make it to the Majors? Think about guys like Brad Cresse and Eddie Furniss who couldn't make it there.
The worst player on the worst team is a great baseball player. None of these guys are scrubs.

If you have to hit .490 just to be a 6th Round pick then that's a bad sign of what kind of MLB prospect he is. It also means it's time for him to go. He can't really top this season. Also comparing Raph to Wade Boggs. Equating anything at the college level to MLB. Really?

Yea hitting .483 against the best competition in college. No way he makes it.
Uh, Rhymes is no sure thing.
In your mind, where do you see him being drafted?

If he can continue to hit in the minors, I can see him becoming a Freddy Sanchez Placido Polanco type. If guys like Darwin Barney, Ryan Theriot, and Skip Shumacker can be major league contributors, I don't see why Ralph couldn't.

For every guy that makes it based on his ability to hit singles and despite his lack of speed, lack of power, and below average defensive ability there are literally hundreds that don't.

Very true. That said, I'm just stating that it can happen even with his limited skill set. The odds are definitely stacked against him but I think he can do it if he continues to hit.
