Not with what he inherited. A middling, game manager QB, a mediocre, inexperienced WR group and thin lines on both sides of the ball is not a roster that was challenging immediately for anything. Anyone could have predicted that ‘17 would have been a bumpy ride.
not having adequate defensive line help was the shite that held them back the last 2 seasons. Go look at the games where they got their shite pushed in. That was directly on Orgeron and his recruiting. Period.

Now this I can agree with you on. I'm a little concerned about the lack incoming big time lineman as well. I posted in another thread that yes, we should be excited about our recruiting class. However, we should be cautious. We have had number one classes full of skill players before.

That middling game manager QB just got a super bowl ring, turbo.

You explain to me how a team in 2017 is talented enough to go 6-2 in the SEC, but yet lose to a troy.

This wasn’t addressed to me, but I’ll tel you how:

2017 SEC was the worst quality of teams in the conference since...idk 2003? 2004?

LSU faced Ole Miss (interim coach) A&M (Sumlin was told before kickoff he was fired win or lose) , Arkansas (fired BERT) , Tennessee (interim coach, O’s Yankee doppelgänger) and Florida (fired McElwain).

A real murderers row, no doubt. No wonder people talked up Troy, they probably would have gone 5-0 against that run of scrubs too.

How about that 2018 class though??

LINK

19 freshmen, 3 JUCO, 2 grad transfers, one who was not added until May, well after national signing day.

Scott, Sheffer, Livingston and Cotton are no longer on the team. Provens may or may not be on the team but even if he was he probably isn’t breaking into even a modest playing role.

Jenkins, Jaray and Nelson, are both buried on the depth chart and I don’t see either of them breaking out. Can say the same for Cole Smith, Kenan Jones and Travez Moore.

That’s 10 misses out of 24. Yikes.

Did you mention Badara Traore? He was supposed to be a difference maker and hasn't been developed at all. What's Super Bowl Cregg doing with him?

You’re writing off guys who are about to start their second year? By this logic you’d have written off Mike Brockers and Kendall Beckwith .

I think Brockers and Beckwith had shown potential by this point.

Can’t say the same for the 5 I listed.

Tell ya what though. Why don’t we bookmark this thread and revisit it in 7 months and we can see who contributed in a meaningful way and who kept the bench warm. Sound good? Good.

What’s so funny? He was the defense of line coach and recruiting coordinator in 2015.

who was the recruiting coordinator 2 years before 2017?
Who was the defensive line coach? Who is the DLINE guru? Look at the regression after Pete left.
