If after 2 weeks and an abysmal offensive showing at OM, LSU doesn't come out with some really 'different' formations, motions, confusing looks, then I have little hope for LSU to win 7 games this year.
Rolling out a different formation isn’t going to matter if we can’t either throw more effectively 25+ yards down field or run the ball for at least 4 ypc consistently. At least one of those two things have to be fixed for the offense to make some progress. If a defense can drop guys, but keep them in a tight box just defending 25 yards of field, then every pass will be contested and anyone catching short will be facing 4-6 defenders closing to try and pick up extra yards. We are playing football in a phone booth on offense right now. A new formation isn’t fixing that.
Based on what we’ve seen, if Nuss is feeling right, we probably have a better chance of hitting something downfield, especially vs USC, as they will take some chances in coverage. People keep bringing up separation, but we’ve been getting guys open downfield, especially vs OM. That’s right there for the taking if Nuss can drive the ball.

There is no excuse for not being able to run into 3 and 4 man fronts. I understand what you said about everyone else playing up close to the line of scrimmage(due to no deep ball threat), but you have to be able to get 4 yards as you said.

Thats why it’s so important to do SOMETHING to spread the defense out. We had the same issue in 2022 when Daniels refused to throw the ball downfield. When you have 9 or 10 guys within 20 yards of the LOS and 6 or 7 still within 10 yards, even when we crest some room to run, most of the defense is right there to limit positive gains to 5 or fewer yards.
The OL isn’t going to magically become something they’re not, so the best way to help the run game is to take more deep shots and hit a few. They don’t have to be home runs, either (although one would get the DC’s attention). A few 30 yarders over the middle will make the LBs and Safeties take notice. Back them up and the run game should at least be able to start generating positive yardage.
This will also create more space for the short and intermediate passing game. We saw that last year after Nuss hit Hilton deep a few times late in the season once he got healthy. It opened up everything else.
