QB Com/Att Com % Yards Yds/A TD Int.

Jordan Jefferson - So 47-73 64% 475 10.1 5 1
Tim Tebow - Sr 39-59 67% 540 13.9 5 1
Colt McCoy - Sr 75-110 68% 859 11.5 6 4
Greg McElroy - Jr 46-69 67% 647 14.1 4 1
Jevan Stead - Jr 28-50 56% 384 13.7 5 2

Based on some rantards it would appear most of the listed QB's should be replaced by their backup. JJ's numbers stands up to the rest. Only one QB has thrown more TDs (McCoy with 37 more pass attempts), none have thrown less interceptions, neither's team has a better record. Yet JJ has been "dumb", terrible", "ignorant" and should be replaced by his backup.

No other QB on the list has played better competition:
(Descending Order)

JJ: Washington, Vandabilt, ULL
Tebow: Tenn, Troy, Charleston Southern
McCoy: TT, Wyo, ULM
McElroy: VaTech, Noth TX, Fla International
Snead: Memphis, SWLA

Rather than being criticized, shouldn't JJ be commended for playing good, safe and sound football? Notice he is the only sophomore on the list. He has much less experience than the others on the list.

The argument that he will not be successful against SEC defenses is assuming (1) he will not improve with experience, and (2) the playcalling will not adjust. LSU has not been behind on the scoreboard whereby the playcalling has had to be aggressive. Should we assume (or hope) JJ would fail or should we believe he will up his game according to the game situation. He has done so more than once in the forth quarter this year with crisp scoring drives to put games away. Also on numerous crucial third downs he has looked sharp with excellent passes for first downs.

From what I have seen of JJ, I believe he will keep getting better and better. Realize he is under extreme pressure after what happend at the QB position last year. He knows the LSU Tiger nation has him under a microscope. That even some predict and hope for his failure. However he has shown that he is a pressure player. He does not freak out under pressure. Very shortly he will be fully comfortable and in complete control. Then watch out!

Edited to correct JJ completion percentage.

Great post! I agree totally. He will improve! You cannot argue with his third down completions!

Jefferson has performed better than Matt Flynn did over his first three starts in 2007 and better than Matt Mauck’s first three in 2002, Jarrett Lee’s first three last season and JaMarcus Russell’s opening trio in 2004, according to the comprehensive passing efficiency statistic that takes into account virtually all aspects of the forward pass.

Jefferson has completed 47 of 73 passes for 64.4 percent, 475 yards and five touchdowns against one interception for a 138.90 passing efficiency rating.

Im VERY curious to what the JJ doubters and JL lovers have to say in response to this. THIS should be very interesting to see.

stats can be misleading.
i'm not hating on jefferson. i'm proud that he's playing safe and sound football.

but he's got to start hitting his few chances downfield. He's got to start making the simple passes and putting them in a place where his talented receivers can do something with it aka bubble screens, swing passes.

Im all for JJ and think he has done fine.

I "like" all 3 (yes three) of our qb's. JL just got stuck in an awful situation last year but showed me something for sure with some throws that were beautiful. Wouldn't mind getting him in there every once in a while at all.

The main thing I hope is that we see more and more of Shep every week...he has by far the most total package out of the three.

I must have missed all of the above. First I've heard that he was dumb, terrible, ignorant. Did you just make that up or quoting from a very small circle of your rantards?

I had to follow the game on the Score Board on TD. It was there. Also descriptions of the worse QB'ing imaginable. Until I saw the game the next day on lsu.net, I thought he had played horrible and had made numerous dumb mistakes. His play was not as described by some, who by the way are not "A very small circle of my rantards".

Since you love stats so much, love these

Colt McCoy - Tex; #13 offense
Tim Tebow - Fla; #33 offense
Greg McElroy - Bama; #36 offense
Jevan Stead - Miss; #72 offense
Jordan Jefferson - LSU; #102 offense

According to passing efficiency CHad Pennington was a better QB than Drew Brees last year.

Watch the games. You can tell which QB doesn't belong on that list.

Better telling stat: LSU-----102 in offense.
