In spring practice, this is a completely irrelevant distinction.

Way too much stock is put into this.

Nothing against Brennan, but what has he done to garner so much confidence. go back and watch Max Johnson against Florida. A perfect game in every aspect of quarterbacking. Max is your starter. It’s great to have these QB problems.

If Max starts at QB this will be Orgeron last season.

Nuss is too skinny. MB has at least 30 lbs on him

You might wanna go read the recap of the second scrimmage on Geaux247. They 100% say that he’s taking advantage of being the 1st team guy and playing very well. The only thing they mention about MB is that he’s “working his way back in shape” that doesn’t sound like he’s ballin out like the guy that claimed he was at the scrimmage said he was.

The perennial most popular guy on campus. LSU’s backup QB

That is setting the bar extraordinarily low if that's a perfect game not even completing 60% of his passes.

You’re quoting the wrong person. I didn’t say that.

I was at the scrimmage yesterday there is no doubt whatsoever who the alpha dog is on that field. Brennan threw several td passes during 7on7 drills. No one else did. Brennan continuously moved the chains in the third down situational drills. No one else did like he did. Brennan drove the field and threw 2 td passes during the live scrimmage. No one else did until the final drive where Johnson threw up a prayer that was actually intercepted in the end zone but the ball was stripped and recovered by the receiver. I know it is just one practice but if it is any indication of what’s to come don’t count Brennan just yet. And he looks completely healthy.

Thats fine. Now lets see 11 on 11 where they are actually hitting. That is when the deer in headlights Brennan reappears. Johnson can make plays with his legs while Brennan cant. We can run the full playbook with
Johnson while we cant with Brennan. This is Johnson's job to lose.

TJ will see the writing on the wall and trasnfer after spring. Johnson and Brennan will be close but i think Johnson will edge him out. Hopefully our coaching staff wont name anyone until week before 1st game. With that being said we are just in the day and age where if players dont start they transfer so get used to it

You do realize that fans here are always gonna be looking for the next guy to be the guy. If QBs can't accept sitting, learning, practicing and hopefully improving their skills until it their time... then oh well.

This board acts like Brennan was dog shite last year. And when Finely had his game and shined.... WHOLY shite, he was proclaimed by MANY on here as the next JR/Rohan type QB. Then Max had his time and made the best, but needed a dumbass play to get the win in the Swamp.

How about we just see how things play out and I do love reading the "book it" or "you heard it first" or the "there's no way he doesn't start" threads from our experts. And I applaud you all for taking time away from you coaching duties and scouting jobs to make these threads.

Not worried about our QB situation. We have two elite passers who will be battling it out. Whoever wins is my dark horse candidate for heisman.

7 on 7 drills? ...come on, man. This means absolutely nothing when you don't have pocket awareness and cant keep your head down field.

We could arguably have the best QB room in the nation next year. Good times. MB, Max and Nuss will be make a great group if TJ leaves. I won't blame him at all if he does, kid has talent just needs more development. And then next year, a QB room of Max, Nuss and Walker? Love it

yea will he be the alpha dog and throw several TDs on Saturdays? Step up in the pocket and avoid sacks? Bc that's all that matters.

If that guy is Brennan then awesome. I hope he is the starter.

Brandon Harris was a practice warrior too though. Has to click under the lights against SEC competition.

My stance hasn't changed, I'd start Brennan as it wasn't his fault our defense was that horrific to start last year. But if I'm coach O he has a short leash for mistakes. Especially if the offense struggles early at UCLA. You don't want to start out 0-1 with a dual threat like Max sitting on your bench.

Normally I would agree. However, I'd suspect Brennan wants a little more clarity in the situation well before fall camp. He only has two years of eligibility left and I doubt he wants to spend them standing on the sideline watching an underclassman play. I also doubt he wants to go all through fall camp only to be named the backup in the final week. That will essentially remove ANY chance of him being able to transfer and make an impact with a new team this season. So it would essentially be a lost season of one of his two remaining.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if after the spring he quietly went to O and Peetz to ask them for an honest assessment of where he stands. The coaching staff probably won't be ready to name a starter right then but Brennan could force their hand (even if there is no public announcement). That is EXACTLY what Burrow did after his third spring at OSU.

The concern some have though, is if it continues to look like Max will be the starter through the summer into training camp, Brennan will almost certainly transfer. TJ may walk too. If that happens Nuss is your guy if Max goes down.

Welcome to college football 2021. Most teams will have the starter and a talented freshman/sophomore with little to no experience as the backup. Everyone in the middle will more than likely transfer.
