Man I hate when my tigers struggle. Here is my 2 cents on the run game I only watch TV copy so can’t see it all. I have always struggled to understand when an offense has a QB who is not a runner and you continue to run Zone read plays. You put the back to one side of the quarterback and the Defense can cut one side of the LOS off. If your QB is not a threat to keep the ball which is not all bad line up in the pistol with back straight behind or get your hands under center. So much more you can do even if it is single back stacked behind QB. Ok im moving on but that is my biggest pet peeve in football."

I guess Todd McClure is wrong too.

You know what is even better? RPO's that the QB hands off, passes, or runs!

We definitely run both RPO’s and zone reads. It’s not hard to tell the difference between a RPO and zone read. If the WRs aren’t running routes, it’s not a RPO. This gray area is how many of the run calls are zone reads vs just a straight inside zone handoff. We don’t really have the answer to that.

Correct- some of the posters in here were going in on your average fan when the offense is schemed around both. My point was you have to be pretty locked in to be able to count how many are RPO vs read option. Most people are just looking at the ball and where it goes while the game is going on.

Adding to the complexity is we also don’t know how many zone reads there are where the WR is just running off the DB or LB and not actually running a route.

Not really.

The issue is not that it’s hard to tell the difference between RPOs and zone reads. The issue is that a bunch of fans are talking about RPOs when they have no idea what an RPO is.
