Yeah, but they were also 5-0 in their bowl games against teams that play in BCS conferences. I'm talking about covering a period of 8 years, not one season.

And how many times did SC embarrass SEC teams, and we barely got past Oregon State and Arizona State? The only Pac-10 team that we dominated was Arizona and they were one of the worst teams in all of 1-A.

And over those 8 years, and 100+ games, you don't think there's enough difference in the strengths of the conferences to account for a 4 1/2 game difference in the win/loss column?

Let me take off the PnG goggles.
I hate say it, but right now UF.
I usually start my season by comparing LSU to them. If we beat them then 99% chance we are stomping some butt that season. If we can pull off another BCS title next year I would say LSU then UF, but today I have to say UF

I can't say that because it would be subjective. I'm going by wins and losses as a measure of success. We can go back and forth until will are blue in the face on what conference we think is best, but we can't argue on wins and losses. The number of wins and losses determines the teams that 1) win conferences 2) go to the best bowl games 3) play for championships. For some reason, our fan base only gives credit to the 2 years that we won and the 2 years that UF won. They are not conducting a full season by season comparison. Personally, I think that the Pac-10, Big East, Big 10 and the ACC (after last 2 years) are 2nd tier conferences. However, I can't say that we get a cookie and we're cast into top 2 of college footballs best programs because we play in the SEC and other teams play elsewhere. Our fan base is starting to remind me of Alabama's because we are so partial and that is sick to me.

Are USC and LSU on a collision course for 09?

I think if Tebow comes back Florida will be in the mix again for the '09 Championship.

I want the boy to leave, but I think he will pull a Leinart and stay his senior year.

I think USC losing a lot of talent on defense, which was supposed to be their strong suit this season. Plus you can always count on USC not showing up for at least one game a season, that will ultimatley ruin their NC hopes. I think UT may have a shot of making a serious run next season. UF will be touch to beat with Tebow as well.

LSU fans are not the only ones who get to weigh in on this debate. There are fans of 119 other D-I universities. When polled, LSU will finish no higher than 3 and that's fair. If USC, LSU or UF win the MNC next season, they can claim the decade. But for now, it's USC #1, UF #2 and LSU a distant 3rd.

Why do you have Texas over OU and Ohio St?

Then why isn't Boise State on your list?

None of SC, Texas, OU, OSU, UF or LSU have the most wins and fewest losses of this decade in all of football (I don't think any of us even have the most in Div. 1A).

Just going by wins is an extremist approach, that results in absurd conclusions if applied (like Concord De La Salle high school being the "Program of the Decade" ahead of SC, LSU and the Patriots). Any rational assessment must acknowledge the differences in competition. To ignore that is ultimately subjective because it inherently makes the subjective judgment that all competition is in fact equal.

Then Boise has achieved more than the Patriots this decade? How absurd is that?

If competition level makes no difference, then why would your discussion only include major BCS conference teams, and ignore the dozens (if not hundreds) of teams out there with more wins and fewer losses?

Either you accept that level of competition is a factor, or you don't. If you don't, your assessment will very quickly run to the absurd. If you do, then it is irrational (and purely biased) to ignore a particular difference in competition level (e.g., the one between the SEC and the Pac 10) just because you have made the subjective judgment that it is somehow too small to be considered, while other differences in competition are still considered.

LSU could steal the show with another NC, especially if it is done in 2009 and spoils Tebows try for immortality.

Without question, its easily USC

7 straight 11 win seasons
7 straight top 4 finishes
4 12 win seasons
2 NCs
3 Heismans

Year in and year out they play the toughest OOC schedule around and play anyone, anywhere, anytime. While other teams are lining up d1aa schools and falling off the map every other year, USC is not.
