I find it interesting that sports message board live-ins can't understand how someone might want to propose at a sporting event that means a lot to a couple rather than a place like a nice restaurant, which would just be another restaurant.
Exactly...who would want to frick up something already so perfect?

He said it tongue in cheek I believe... Do not worry about it and take the responses with a grain of salt. You will be fine and congratulations. I got engaged in December. You will be fine!!!

Personally, I would never do it at a sports game. But different atmospheres are important to different people.

i agree 100% it depends on the girl...and i guarantee you she's a bigger tiger fan than alot of the guys who are on here...

it's just selfish and puts wa too much pressure on the girl

i hope she says no in the stadium, slaps him after, then says yes in private

an engagement is a private thing. a romantic thing

privacy and romanticism are not found in tiger stadium

It would be for me and sounds like for you, but there are lots of different people out there. If two people love LSU sports so much that their lives together revolve around LSU games, (and that makes them happy) more power to him if he makes the LSU game the place of the proposal.

Sure there are women out there that like sports, even a lot, and there will certainly be exceptions to what I am about to say, but for the most part women don't consider the Lakers versus the Celtics to be a romantic atmosphere.

Guys that propose to women at sporting events mess with the fantasy that the little girl grew up with: she wants shivering candlelight in a romantic resort town hotel, not Shaquille O'Neal looking on or Manny Ramirez approving.

41 percent of first marriages end in divorce. They all entered thinking the same.

Data from divorcepeers.com:

Age at marriage for those who divorce in the United States

Under 20 years old 27.6%
20 to 24 years old 38.8%
25 to 29 years old 22.3%
30 to 34 years old 11.6%
35 to 39 years old 5.1%

Bottom line: it's SELFISH

quote:

A guy that proposes at a sporting event thinks that it is all about him, but really if you, the guy, are the one down on one knee and doing the asking then you have to be the one to compromise. Sure, you want to get verbally locked into marriage in front of Yao Ming, but she doesn't and she's the one that needs impressing. Don't be surprised if she sees your selfishness for what it is and that forces the word "no" out of her mouth.

Well obviously if she wants that and he is giving her a sports event proposal, he is screwing up. But then again, if he doesn't realize that is what she does and doesn't want yet, it doesn't matter where he proposes, the relationship isn't in good shape anyway.

Definitely. Married 15 years and wouldn't change it. I got married @ 28 though. Hit a lot of bitches before hanging it up.

well it's selfish on the guy's part. he's proposing where HE wants to. and in front of 90k fans, she almost has to say yes

however, he appears to be very christian. christianity tells husbands to be selfish and controlling, so he's just following doctrine

I've never agreed with you more.

I love sports and going to games and Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night is an amazing place to be. But stadium proposals and even restaurant proposals don't appeal to me at all. But I guess some people might want that.

as evidenced by sports blooper reels, there are many women that manage to say "no" and the inconsiderate, unromantic goofball that get's left at center court while she runs into the back halls of the arena crying, kind of deserve that walk off shame out of the building in front of a bunch of laughing and drunk, nacho-eating bleacher creatures. You make your bed and you sleep in it.

good luck ryan payne.

(also another fantastic decision to put your full name on a public messageboard)
