Unfortunately, I believe you are right.
While I was not happy about the way Coach O was hired I really gave him the benefit of the doubt, especially after hiring Canada. After this pathetic exercise, it appears he is repeating his OM mistakes at the expense of LSU and doesn't really care what anyone else thinks.

Canada had to go because he was viewed as a pariah and a cancer on the football staff by the football staff.
Meanwhile, both O and Aranda agree that Ensminger is a better OC than Canada is. As Aranda says that Ensminger is a better play caller, and he ought to know since he schemed against the both of them every day in practice.
There are rumors also that Ensminger called the plays in the Texas A&M game.
Anyway, O, Aranda, and Ensminger are the best of friends and are inseparable. As O does not make any decisions without running it through both those guys first, as he trusts both those guys immensely.
Hence, no wonder O bumped up Ensminger to OC. He just wanted to be surrounded by the people he trusts the most. I don't blame him.
Furthermore, it was Ensminger who went out and got us the number one wide receiver in the country. Where was Canada?
